It isn't commercial vs recreational. It's more like commercial vs noaa that resulted in a 9 day season. The commercial and recreational sectors have had essentially the same quota for years but noaa's consistent lack of enforcing the rec quota kept resulting in lower quota for the commercials. The real issue isn't about commercial vs recreational landings. It's about the flawed stock assessments that exclude data from artificial reefs and the inability of noaa surveys to document recreational landings.

The quota distribution didn't change. Both rec an comm are still getting screwed. The comm filed a suit against NOAA for their lack of accountability for quantifying rec landings. Comm has the same ifq program they have used for years that accurately determines landings with trip tickets. 51% and 49% distribution is the same but noaa implemented a 20% buffer for the rec quota that resulted in the 9 day season. They implemented the 20% buffer because of the inaccurate survey methods that estimate rec landings. Relief isn't going to come until states are allowed to manage and/or reasonable decisions are made during stock assessments that include fish from artificial reefs.

That doesnt change the fact that the crybabies think they got screwed because the commercs are still the same.

How would the sports like it if they raised the limit to 15 but only allowed people who caught snapper in 1991,92,&93

There's no question that comm fishermen have been "managed" out of numerous fisheries throughout the gulf while catering to recs. the gillnet moritorium, gulf shrimp moritorium, refs fish moritorium, etc. have reduced the number of comm fishermen due to the lobbiest the recs claim they aren't represented by.

Msm...i was born on a shrimp boat and was raised trawling,trapping,gillnetting,crabbing,fishing alligators...u name it.This was before the history channel or whatever channel, made it all cool.
i was capt. On a snapper,tuna,grouper,and knig mackrel boat for 10 years....started offshore snapper
Fishing when i was 18 on a 60 ft fiberglass boat with 6 hydraulic bandits,a big ice hole,autopilot, air conditioner,
A compass,and a big bag of weed. I killed more fish in those 10 years than most can imagine.
for the past 15 years i work in the oil field and take random drug tests but i am still a part time commercial
fisherman and still wear my white boots and still feel like kicking a fukkin winey ass sportfisherman in the
balls when i hear them fukkin cry about how they think that everything is owed to their weekend warrior fukkin asses.
Id like to see some of those fukkers loose their lively hoods because some group thinks it belongs to them or thinks more regs in their livelyhood is needed.
most of the stupid knowitall bastards cant even put their 150000 dollar boats back on the fukkin trailer.
and they take too fukkin long at the launch too.
