 Best motor for deep water?
I am new to this site and mud motors in general, and was looking for advise on what mm does best in deep water. I want a mud motor to access new areas and have fun modifying, but I also run a lot of open deep water. Any advise is welcome and appreciated.

Re: Best motor for deep water?
For long runs in deep water most will tell you a surface drive is the way to go because of the speeds and ease of driving compared to a long tail. As far as brand, that's a whole nother can o worms there

Depends on if you want instant reverse, or if you don't mind waiting for the lower unit to swing around, if you don't want reverse at all. Then there are a ton of options.

Pro-Drive is the easiest to steer hands down.

Re: Best motor for deep water?
To each there own, I've had both , and to me the PD is easier to steer in every aspect, even standing. But then again I'm a towering 5' 8" tall.

Re: Best motor for deep water?
Thanks for all the help guys, I've been looking at the pro drives. I saw somewhere on the site that pro drives don't do well with go devil boats. Is that the boats just for long tails that gd makes or gd boats in general? Can anyone elaborate on this?

I had a 36 PD on a gd boat. No complaints here

Prodrive is easy to steer. Go devil and prodrive run with very little to no vibration.

Re: Best motor for deep water?
In my comparison a few months ago there were a few things that made me go GTR. First was the instant reverse. Second was the free floating handle (not on pro drive) because I want to lift the handle out of the way of the rear fisherman, third the reverse on the pro would be useless in shallow timber IMO, and fourth the GTR sits on top of the transom, not hanging off the back, allowing me to lift much easier when needed. To each their own. Both are good motors. Just figure out which one suits your needs.

Re: Best motor for deep water?
If it had a floating handle, its something that was fabbed up and added on by somebody else. BayouBoy has done a floating handle for a Pro-Drive.
