Power trim questions for my Dixie 18hp
I am running a dixie 18 on my 14x36 rivited jon, it runs smooth and I have enjoyed it thus far. My frame has the brackets for electric trim already on there and have found and incredable deal on the trim motor to fit it. My question is will it make the the motor to rigid for my boat? I hit things in the water now and my motor pops up out of the water, but with the trim bolted on im worried the transome will absorbe all that abuse. It would be nice to never twist a trim knob again but it would suck to tear the transome off the boat and lose my whole rig. Any advice would be great.

Re: Power trim questions for my Dixie 18hp
I have power trim on my 23 Dixie. The trim motor does not impede the motor from kicking up if you hit something.

Re: Power trim questions for my Dixie 18hp
I thought it bolted on the transome plate and from there it bolted to the frame? How is it not a rigid mount? Could someone with a dixie that has trim post some pictures?

There's a bracket on the bottom that lets it kick up. Which trim Elc or the Hyd are you looking at?

The bracket moves with the bottom of the cmc mounting hole allowing it to kick up

Re: Power trim questions for my Dixie 18hp
90% finished. Waiting on my winch contact and dpdt trim switch. Then she will be wired and ready to roll. The trim seems a little slow im hoping the contact will up the amperage to the motor and it will get faster.

Winch contact got here today. Going to hook it up and I will post some speeds up now that I can adjust trim on the fly.

Re: Power trim questions for my Dixie 18hp
Everything is run and hooked up working, though one bad ground had me ready to burn the whole boat down. It works great I just wonder how you guys have your trim switch mounted, I wanted to one hand operate it and cant find a good spot. Here are a few pics of the finished product.

On my 2014 dixie with cmc trim it let sthe motor go as high as need be, even if the bracket os all the way up. The whole trim unit releases

Re: Power trim questions for my Dixie 18hp
Last post to my thread. Everything is installed and works great I took Bernie's suggestion and bought a switch I could mont in the handle. It works great I like the fact I dont have to fiddle with a trim screw anymore. I drove it tonight and can set it right at about 3600 rpm in the shallows with just me in the boat and run 25-26 mph. Im hoping to see the gains of electric trim when I have to haul a load and getting on plain better. Thanks for all those who submitted help and here is the picture of the new trim switch I relocated to the handle.

Re: Power trim questions for my Dixie 18hp
Mudexxed- thanks, all i needed was a little push in the right direction.
Bernie- Its a momentary micro toggle (on) -off-(on) so it works like a normal trim switch but small enough to fit in the handle.
Thanks again for all the help fellas I think it turned out good and hopefully continues working well.

Re: Power trim questions for my Dixie 18hp
Heres a tip, you might wanna run the cable from the unit up top instead o under your unit like that

Re: Power trim questions for my Dixie 18hp
Yeah, it is that picture just a rough fitting of the swing bracket, it runs up through the gap that the frame pivots on where the trim screw used to be, then over to the side of the motor where all the electrical is mounted.
