Mine will do it after about a 2 mile wide open run.ONLY if it is cold.I just turn it off ,smoke a cig, fire it back up and run until it does it again.

Pull the carb heat switch out all the way... ;) If I remember it was the little black square...

Seriously though, the only time I dealt with carb heat was with airplanes, and you could encounter it at 70deg while turning low (idle) RPMs.

We have had some issues with Carb icing up North here, and it ussually happens after you have ran it awhile in the cold. There seems to be a range of temp where I see it the most. Somewhere in the 10 F to 30 F range. Anything colder or warmer than that and there is not a problem. I ussuall just turn my intake on the back of my 36 to pick up warm air coming off the pipe, and that seems to help alot.

I was the one who was having a problem with the carb icing. At least the way y'all describe it, that must have been what was going on. Now that the temperature has moderated I'm not having a problem with the motor cutting out, but I'm not going nearly as fast even though I'm trimming it the same way or at least am getting the same rpm's wutg the same weight load as what used to run the fastest. Does the carb icing have any residual effect?

Stu up here in AK has come up with a nifty attachment for the air cleaner intake for the Briggs to pull warm air off the muffler. Works pretty well and a lot cheaper than the setup Briggs sells for carb iceing .

And the ambient temp doesnt have to be below 32F to get carb icing - venturi effect

 Next week's lesson we'll explore integrated isenthalpic effects of isothermic coefficients and how it effects load carrying ability.
