Insurance on homebuilt boat

 Insurance on homebuilt boatHas anyone had to deal with getting insurance on a homebuilt boat? If so what did you need to do and who is your provider.
My agent is having issues getting me coverage on a homebuilt 18x52 with new gtr and McClain. |

Re: Insurance on homebuilt boat I hear this complaint from alot of people that try to save a buck and buy a boat that is not made from a manufacturer. What the insurance company is looking for is some sort of established value, so what will happen is the insurance company will hire (at your expense of course) an independant marine surveyor to establish that 1) the boat is sea worthy, and 2) what it is worth.........not all companies do this, so shop around for one that will insure you with the least amout of trouble.

Re: Insurance on homebuilt boat Just insure the boat for a set value not the value of the boat that is what people up here do. That way it won't depreciate each year and if you total it you get half what it's worth.
