Is that hand calculated or what the Computer said? Hard to belive pulling a load at 70 MPH still getting 17 MPG.

LOL...........tell me about it. The computer will read between 11-22 depends alot on the road and wind. i reset it yesterday on the way home an running HWY 300 between gilmer and longview it is reading 18.6 and that is running 70 mph 75% of the way.

I have a 40 gallon tank and when the light comes on i can put 34 gallons in it.

When I hand calculated it 3-4 times it is always on road trips and i get 610 to 650 miles per tank.

I am leaving for Winters and will keep a hand calculated record of what i see and what i got behind my truck

FYI....I am putting 325-65-18 on today!!!!!!!

if your comp gives you a mileage calc and you have oversize tires you are getting better than the comp says because you are rolling more miles than it think because of the larger tires..
I just said its hard to belive you are getting 17 MPG towing a boat at 70 mph..

689 mile round trip pulling a 12' trailer with a honda 300 and EZgo Golf cart with windshield i got 11.8. That was driving from Longview TX to just outside Winters TX with a 20 mile an hour north wind. For the ones that dont know there is no flat ground from Longview to Winters and the Ranger Hill will kick your butt. My average speed for the trip was 60.3 mph.

This is with 325/65/18 cooper Stt tires (34x13.5x18).

Before i had the tires on i got 19.2 on the same trip. My average speed was slower because i was folowing the RV so i would have to guess at 50-55 for the avg.

This morning from Home to work i averages 49.3 mph and got 13.9 no head wind.

Yes the hyw speed is posted from 60-70 but he average speed is where you get you real fuel numbers for long drives.

Later

If you are pulling, you want a deeper gear (ie higher numerical ratio = lower/ deeper gears) I have 4.10's in my HD, but IMHO half ton 4x4's need 3.73 MINIMUM.

I would think that in a half ton truck, you'd want the highest gear ratio you could get... after all, there wouldn't be a problem pulling light duty stuff with a 3:73. and you'd get much better mileage out on the highway. but then again... I'm no expert.

I should have said 3.73 with your standard 4 speed tranny. With the newer 6 speed autos out the ratios are alot less scattered and you stay in the powerband. Regardless I want to be no less than 2000 RPMS at 70 if I do any towing. My old Z-71 had 3.42's and it got great mileage but when you put a trailer on it forget abou using Overdrive.

appreciate all the help guys....dunno bout the milage but test drove new f150 and NIGHT AND DAY difference between 05/06 models

Even took the boat up there to test drive with pulling the boat its like it isnt even back there... get up and go power is just as good as without the boat as it is with it and thats with 5.4 engine 3.55 rear end

considerably quiet and smooth compared to 05/06 f150 and even new chevys n gmcs

was on a road that the road workers only put the black rock down instead of asphalt and that crap is loud in every truck/suv ive been in until this new f150

6 speed tranny is definately the way to go, turning radius is very sharp compared to older models

6 speed tranny in my yota, makes hell of a difference if you ask me. i dont know about the new ones but i drove the chevys when i was looking for a new truck and didnt like em. chevy screwed me over on my last truck so i wont be buying a chevy again. other than a a hick up or 2 I love my truck. I probably will not go back either.

The big V8 is paired with a six-speed automatic; 4.10 rear gears are standard and the tow package comes with a 4.30 ratio. All versions of the Tundra can be equipped with two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, and all trucks come with a limited-slip rear differential. A properly equipped 4x2 Tundra Regular Cab can tow up to 10,800 pounds. The Tundra's maximum Gross Combined Weight Rating or GCWR (the total weight of the vehicle, including trailer, cargo, passengers and fuel load) is 16,000 pounds

[quote="MaXXis85"]THe newer GM half tons have the option of a 6 speed auto I THINK.... NOT positive yet, but if you can get it DO IT. the engine stays in the powerband throughout the shifting process.quote]

My new Chevy 2010 Silverado 1/2 ton does indeed have the 6 speed tranny. This may or may not be part of the "Power Pack" option of tow receiver, heavy-duty cooling and other towing equipment.
