 6.0 powerstroke
Looking at geting a new truck and came across a deal with a 6.0. Everything I read says there junk unless you bulletproof them. The one I came across was just bulletproofed and comes with warranty. .. so does the bulletproof actually make it reliable or are they just shitty motors? Figured a few here knee a little boit diesels.

 Re: 6.0 powerstroke
I just worked on one with just under 500k on it. He bought it around 120 from a guy who had it "bulletproofed" around 100k. He said he loves it and hasnt had any real trouble out of it. Most of the trucks i've worked on that were bulletproofed, the owners were happy with them.
I do electrical work though, not a mechanic, and i've never owned one. I've worked on a good handful though.

 Re: 6.0 powerstroke
No type of warranty on a motor that has head studs, egr delete, exhaust, all new injectors installed. At least I have not heard of it. I would not buy it. If I had it, I would fix it and keep it. New vehicles r too outrageously priced.

 Re: 6.0 powerstroke
I was an international mechanic for a few years and I can tell you that a 6.0 in stock trim is a disaster waiting to happen. I assume by bulletproofing, you mean an egr delete kit and ARP head bolts? Thats a good start to a tough engine. The stock injectors suck. And the turbo is an awesome concept but it doesn't last like a cummins design. The turbine is a variable pitch so it both spools up fast and moves a lot of air. But for some reason(probably fuel related) they seem to pit and wear terribly. If you have a fairly fresh truck, less than 100,000 miles, it might be worth putting some money in. Start with a good tune. Not a shitty plug and play programmer. They push way too much fuel causing 2 weak links to get even weaker. The injectors fail bc of drastically increased fuel flow and the turbo fails bc of excessive heat and carbon build up. BUT if built and maintained properly I've seen these trucks last a long time and run great.

 Re: 6.0 powerstroke
I have a 6.0 not bulletproofed with over 200000 miles and runs just fine. They do have weak links like every other truck. If you dont drive it with the intentions on breaking it they last.

 Re: 6.0 powerstroke
The shop that bulletproofed the motor puts a warranty on the motor. The shop actually buys trucks with 6.0s, bulletprppfs the motors then turns around amd sales them. This truck has under a 100, 000 miles. Still undecided, seems like some think its junk and others have run the wheels off of them.

It is still a ticking time bomb. Either get a 7.3 or a 6.7

 Re: 6.0 powerstroke
Duramax, or 6.7 Ford... With a warranty. It would suck selling a kidney to buy said truck, then mortgaging your house to fix it when the power plant goes south.

 Re: 6.0 powerstroke
7.3's are gitting mighty old. you may find a good one left but you will think its made of gold when you see the price for an at least 11 year old truck.
i have an 05 6.0, it only has 85k with egr delete and oil cooler @ 55000. turbo sticks from time to time. not sure if i could recomend one as it scares the shit out of me every time i turn the key. but its what ive got and for a 10 year old truck i havent realy had to spend much money on it.

 Re: 6.0 powerstroke
The best thing for them besides adding a bunch of aftermarket parts is to drive them like paw paw Sun-Fri and on Sat, hammer down. Keeps everything blown out and prolongs the sticky turbo problem. If you work them hard on a daily basis that's where the stretched head bolts and leaking EGR coolers happen. The oil cooler is just junk. I changed several with less than 20K when I was at the stealership.

 Re: 6.0 powerstroke
Don't do it.... get a 6.7 or 6.4 ford, or a cummins. Every single duramax I have ever been around has head gasket problems, or a cracked piston, and the Allison trans loves limp mode. If you're gonna mod it, can't beat a 5.9 cummins (minus the trans) or a 6.4 ford. The 6.4 with egr and Dpf delete and a tune is a monster!

 Re: 6.0 powerstroke
I have had 3 6.0's all studded and deleted, 4 7.3's, 2 24v vp cummins, 1 5.9 common rail cummins and a 08 lmm duramax. Unbiased opinion is they are all junk. It just comes down to what type of junk you like... I will say I liked my raggedy old 450k mile 12v the best out of everything I have owned and the 6.0's were a close second.
