Get him to a professional. If you want a good hunting dog spend the money. Bloodlines just mean he may have potential. Not guaranteed.

I got a 9 week old pup that I was worried about. But you just got to make it fun, keep them interested. I learned the hard way that if you too mean to them, they lay down

if he dont want to retrieve you better just give him away like freshwater said. They just have to have that drive to retrieve, its not something you can teach

Why do you need to break his will?

Dude, please find him a better home. You may be a fine person, but if you think the highest setting on the shock collar or a boot is necessary to "break his will", you need to relearn how to train, and that dog needs a better trainer.

It's amazing.
You offer zero information of your problem, age of the dog, training to date, your experience level as a trainer....ya da ya da ya da. I am confused by your questions and how much info you offered. If that's an indication of how you train then small wonder. Zero information on how you got to your situation with your dog yet you and others have it all figured out.
Why not get together with a professional or a good amateur trainer in your area? Have a serous look at your dog and you. How you and the dog work together. Yes, I said you because it is a possibility that how you handle or don't handle the dog is the real issue. Most dogs are not stubborn or hard headed, they just don't understand what you ask and then pup gets more confused when the handler applies pressure ( gets mad) .
Good Luck
Don

Your dog's success depends as much on you as it does on him or her . A good hunting dog is bred to do many things naturally . But none of us on this site know where or how you've gotten this pup and if you've done your homework on getting a real bred dog with the drive and desire to hunt in the first place . Even if the dog didn't have the gene pool in it's background and could have a chance to become a gundog , the problem here is you . YOU , ON THE OTHER HAND , ARE NOT GENETICALLY PREDISPOSED TO TRAIN A DOG ! You need to spend as much time learning how to be a communicator as you do learning to apply the principles of effective dog training . Give the dog a home , you've already most likely ruined this one . Go learned and watch someone or send it to a pro before getting another dog ! Not what you want to hear , but it's a fact JACK !

First off I'm not really beating my dog. Jeeesh 7 years of calm suttle tactics on him are lost within minutes maybe it's cause he still has his nuts Idk I've always had female labs. There has really been no desire for him to retrieve at all from a puppy till now. Nor really listen. He has his own mind and that's it you let him out he's gone been like this since he's been a pup. I trying to make everything pleasant for him but hunting or training. He's not gun shy. Loves the water. I honestly think that US having children messed him up. He was always showed attention. And now he's on the sidelines Idk. Maybe he's just a good family dog now. Idk

As for dog I've trained a lot of dogs growing up from Irish setters ,labs, goldens without any issues. He's just the most stubborn dog I've ever met. He walks around in his own world.

After 7 years? This dog is 7 years old? I see a rug in the house with his name on it. Get him clipped and get you a female puppy and start over. I've got a 7 month old male at the trainers and a 3 month old female at the house. The female dog will not hunt but will still go to obedience school for a few months. Both have good bloodlines but the female one is hyper and chews on everything. The male is calm until he sees that bumper. Point is....dogs are as different as people. I love to hunt, my brothers could care less. Same bloodline.

i was worried with mine too, she didnt really start wanting to retrieve all the time till she was like 8 or 9 months old, and now she is a finished dog and cant get enough of it, some labs just take longer. like some of the other people said, bring him to a pro.

Outdoor Freak, you said (As for dog I've trained a lot of dogs growing up from Irish setters ,labs, goldens without any issues.)
Then you said (How do you get a dog to bring a bumper all the way to you not drop it halfway and run off and play)
And then you asked (how in the hell do you break the will of a stubborn non retrieving lab shock collar on the highest setting doesnt work nor does a size 12 boot hes and akc lab high blood line but i think hes just retarded.)

Something just don't add up here, or is it just me?
Sorry but I don't think I have an answer for you.

Duck don seven years of force fetch training he still hasn't grasp the concept. All my other dogs done deal. He's a good dog but not up to my standard. And I'm absolutely not some as seen on tv hunting clown. We've hunted with dogs for years. Bears, cats, waterfowl, upland game you name it. This labs has been my only dog that's givin me problems. And I won't stop till I figure him out nor would I give him away. But you really have to try every option to get his horrible habits broke. I called my buddy in Arkansas tonight tried a few things with him. He acted like he was trying. We will see.

I got one at the trainers. I'm not lazy. Just do not know how to train dogs so I leave it up to the professionals. I enjoy duck hunting too much to have a unruly dog that I tried to train ruin my fun.

Force fetch is a 4-6 week process. You're lying. Just admit you don't know crap about training a dog, probably googled force fetch to sound knowledgeable, and move on. Your a sad excuse for a guy who "trained dogs".

Btw his "horrible habits" exists because you let them happen and develop into a habit when he was a puppy. If you knew how to train a dog, you wouldn't have let bad habits ever occur, ESPECIALLY not a lack of basic obedience, and then complain about how after 7 years you can't figure it out.

I'd bet in 6 weeks I could have your dog retrieving, obeying, and respecting me.

Nah I travel a lot hunting hell if people weren't such pricks here I'd invite anyone up for a hunt. It is amazing you haven't hunted till you floated in pods on the great lakes let alone seeing the giant migrations happen. I hunt south too and love it there I love hunting flooded timber. If any of you come up here I'm game to take you out
