My favorite Houston site is in the rear view mirror on the way out of town. :D Seriously tho, if you wanna take Mama out for a lil while, take her down to Kemah and go to the boardwalk, or hit I-45 South and head to Galveston.

Coming from IL. Been hearing Houston is a dump not worth staying in. i love the rearview comment! We are thinking we can get the truck Friday the 29 by mid day and beat feet out of town for a better spot to stay. You guys think the coast? We only have one day to f around and want to make the best of it. 1050 miles from here to Houston, gonna have a proper test drive by the time I get home!

Come on down to the BAY AREA. Lots of water and some cool sites and places to eat and stay. Houston is a BIG city lots of things to do and yes there are some places that are not very beautiful, but let me assure you there are a lot more cool places to visit and see. Have lived here for 15 years in the NASA area and my family enjoys it. Come on down 45 to NASA PKWAY and exit to the east (past NASA SPACE CENTER) travel until you hit HiWAY 146 you will find Hotels and Places to eat in every price range. Lots of choices and very safe and fun area. You can Google: Clear Lake City Tx or Bay Area Houston.

Traffic on 45 south will be brutal between 4:00pm--6:30 pm from the downtown area to the
Greater Bay Area around Clear Lake City. Usually 45 min to 1 hour without a wreck. 20 min. normally outside of rush hour traffic.

Thanks Indybill. That sounds like a plan to me. Is there anywhere to buy fresh shrimp in that area? By the time they git to us they suck!

If you go to the area he described near 146 and the NASA Rd 1 intersection, just
back north barely a mile, over the 146 bridge - go just east about
3 blocks in the shadow of the bridge are a series of really good
fish / shrimp retail shops....

Also as a touristy thing the Space Center - is a memorable way to spend
a day -- then hit the Kemah Boardwalk for rides and really good seafood
with an overlook of the sunset on the bay with a happy beverage at
Joe's Crab Shack or Cadillac Bar and Grill....

The Nasau Hilton is nearby and has nice views overlooking the bay too...

Or jog down to Galveston and take your pick of oceanview rooms....
Moody Gardens is pretty cool there in Galveston too....

I am just getting back to my computer. Sorry for the delay to your question. There have been some very good and some very interesting suggestions for you and your wife. Houston is a HUGE city with loads of different areas. I don't know where your final meeting place is but you
and your wife will be safe and comfortable in the greater Bay Area and there will be loads to do
here. Yes you will be able to buy fresh seafood at the bridge described in the earlier email and yes you can select any ethnicity of food you will possibly want at a reasonable price along the route. The Hilton on NASA Rd would be a GREAT location for you to stay. There is more than a day's worth of attraction's to see and experience, and yes NASA is a very interesting place. Good luck with your decision.

The only thing left is to find a good ass seafood restaurant. Don't own a shirt with a collar and the only shoes I have are steel toed. Want a place i can pig out on good ass food and drink some beers. I'm tempted to bring a turkey fryer and cook up the shrimp! Whachu guys thinkin???

He boardwalk has about 20 resterents prolly. Most seafood with a Mexican food also. Landrys and joes crab shack are my two favorite. You can eat out on the deck and watch the boat parade full of nice boats and bikinis that happens every Saturday. Once you get there and see the boardwalk you can feel it out.

Made it home! The weather was terrible, so we came home a day early. The high light of the whole trip was eating at Pappadeaux's. I ate like a forkin pig till I wanted to pass out :o Seafood fondu, dozen oysters, cold shrimp, grilled shrimp, stuffed shrimp, and lobster chased down by about 8 drafts. That place forkin rocks!! Probably old news to you local guys, but to a Yank, dats da chit  We went two hour out of our way to hit Mack's Praire wings only to find out they were closed for inventory. I said "Fork Mack's, lets hit RNT!" They were also closed for inventory!!! :x :x Quick question for you AR boys, You ever heard of salting a road??? Spent 3 hours stuck on the interstate driving on 2" of road ice. Anyway, Texas=very cool, Louisiana=very cool but only went as far as Shrievport, Ar=sucked balls, Missourri= best roads ever, rolled 80mph through the whole state. Thanks for all the advise, I would def do it again.
