Post Buckshot & Chokes
Need some input on shooting 00 buckshot through a Full Briley Goose choke made for steel.Anyone use a full choke for buckshot.

Going on a state land hog hunt and all we can shoot is a shot gun with buckshot.

I would use a more open choke. Maybe modified, or imp cyl. Most of those aftermarket full chokes say not to use buckshot. I know its a big no no on the kicks high flyer and patternmaster full and extra full chokes.

x2... take it to da pattern board, you'll be glad u did.

I patterned my turkey gun for 00 buckshot once and found that da tighter da choke da worse da pattern got with 00 buckshot. Imp. cyl ended up being da best pattern with it and #4 buck shot best through a modified, but every gun's different.

I always shot #1 buckshot through a full choke. Never tried the turkey choke or anything else.

I think a modified choke works best with 00. Anything much tighter than that tends to flatten and distort the pellets too much, and they don't fly right. But like it's been stated here already, I would take your gun to a patterning board to make sure.

When i patterened my Benelli SBE II, I shot 3 1/2 00 Buck at 50 yards with a factory full choke and put 15 out of 18 consistantly on a 15 inch circle. Might just be the gun though

Cope i have the briley mod duck chock!! At 45 yards it put all 18 in a 20 inch circle at 60 it put 12 so i thiunk it will be pretty dam tight i also have a IM goose chock it should be better!! The chokes made to shoot steele should throw lead better than a regular choke!!
