1848 Alumitec review
Finally got a chance to run the new boat today. 1848 Alumitec with an extended deck and removable gun box. 3/16 bottom, 1/8 sides.
Motor Swomp 35 LS,
Load My two boys, 150 each, myself 190, 6 gallons of gas, cooler with drinks, and the battery.
Speeds Shallow and deep water speeds were about the same. The rig would run between 18 and 19.
This the same motor I had on my Lowe last year. The New boat is much easier to handle and about 2 mph faster. Definitely noticed the difference with the Gator Glide going though the thick veggies. Overall I'm real happy with the rig. With a little tweaking I might get a little more speed but WTH, it's a Long Tail.

Re: 1848 Alumitec review
Hey, Stu! Sorry I missed the opportunity to ride. Great looking hull, I like that marsh brown/tan color too, don't need to add a camo pattern. Is that a 20 or 16/17" transom? I was told the LS was for the tall transom and the 59" SS for the short transom. I am looking at the same configuration except I want it in .100 gauge, and definitely open hull like yours but maybe a shorter front deck. Does it have flotation? I think I'd want some in the bow and the rear pods. I'm afraid to ask the $ price for the hull. Years ago I saw a similar hull in aluminum, from Paul Dixon/ Airboats Unlimited in Bainbridge, Ga. The Glide, just like Steelflex, sure makes untrailering/trailering that much easy, as well as running through the mud/veggies. That is great speed with that load and the hull is heavy; I bet you can tweak the throttle after break-in. Did BackH20 recommend synthetic oil and grease? Noovember is just around the corner!

Re: 1848 Alumitec review
Looking good, Stu. Let me know when you want to go for a ride.
A friend of a friend just had a couple of mudboats built over at Hammond airboats and they did a good job, too. There are getting to be enough of us to put a ride together in the Glades soon.

1848 Alumitec review
Love my '05 alumitec built boat but love that extended deck even more. Ive been thinking about adding one.
Does your bottom look like this?
Original layout
I took out the box seats and gun box and just went with a coffin box down the middle.

Re: 1848 Alumitec review
GR the floatation on mine is in the floor. They use 2x6 stringers so it has 6" of floatation throughout.
Launch the boat one morning and drove 2 miles to the blind. After sitting in the boat for a few minutes i realized drain plug was not in.

Re: 1848 Alumitec review
bbb, bottom looks the same. I decided against the flotation. Might regret that later.

Re: 1848 Alumitec review
Stu's boat is really really nice. I really like the low sides that taper to the bow; mine taper a couple of inches but his boat is really low-slung, reminds me of a Lake and Bay of mudboats. It's going to be a breeze to camo that boat with how low it sits; it's awesome. Here's a little video of our run in the Glades on Saturday morning. http://youtu.be/f1zRFj12t18

The Vimeo version is a bit shakier (no image stabilizer) but it's in full 1080p. https://vimeo.com/109406409

T-Gunn, that was a great time. That Instagstor really scoots. Thanks again for putting the video together.
