Trolling Motor - What size ??
How much thrust and what shaft length would be needed for an 1854 Prodrive Center Console? 21" sides

Re: Trolling Motor - What size ??
I used to have an 18 foot bass boat with a 200 VMAX and with 2 men, both 200 lbs and 34 gallons of gas, a 60lb thrust moved it pretty good. If ya standin on the bow and dont realize which way its pointed, Itll throw ya off the bow pretty quick. Hope this helps a little with some weight comparison.

Re: Trolling Motor - What size ??
Like anything else, bigger is better. It really depends how many batteries you want to carry. My 55 lb Minkota pulls my 18x48 just fine. I wouldn't get anything less and it's the largest 12v.

Re: Trolling Motor - What size ??
Sounds like a 55# Minn Kota is the way to go. Thanks for the help.

Re: Trolling Motor - What size ??
Everybody in agreement with the 55" shaft length for a hand control trolling motor...say the Riptide bow mount?

Re: Trolling Motor - What size ??
wow I guess I'm a little over kill with my 80lb minn kota...lol... to be honest with you a 55lbs was worthless for me... I had to step up to a 24v system to get the run time we needed...

Re: Trolling Motor - What size ??
Motorguide has a smaller foot print while Minnkota bases are bigger if space is a factor. I run the motorguide 55 and it will last all weekend on a single charge but either one digital will last longer. Anything bigger than a 55 and you have at least two batteries which adds weight.

Re: Trolling Motor - What size ??
Mine's 75lb 24v motorguide tour edition on PD1860cc and to tell the truth I would'nt go anything less! Fished Minn-Kota all my life and am still on the fence about the two brands. If you're really gonna fish hard (strong wind + current) 12v ai'nt gonna cut it. Where these boats take can go it would be a joke to short yourself on the trollin mtr! Weeds=2 blade. Open water and logs=3 blade. Motorquide needs Gator Spring kit or it'll just piss u off...Accusharpe knife sharpener ur best friend to keep prop in shape if ur gonna be in the thick stuff, just take the old one outta the kitchen.

Re: Trolling Motor - What size ??
Dont want to start a minn kota/motorguide war, but generally the minn kota is a better motor! If the price is the same i would go minn kota all day over motorguide.
minn kota has over 60% of the market share compared to motorguide. I have dealt with 2 different repair men and trust me, any brand you buy if you put the hours on on them like me you will have minor issues. Plus my shit is always in salt water... But both repair shops are certified minn kota, and motorguide and sells both. If you ask them they say buy minn kota, they feel they are a little better built and better warranty..

Re: Trolling Motor - What size ??
Ain't GPS'd mine, but there is a diff between 2 & 3 blade prop. 24v 75lb does have a haul azz gear where i used to fire up the big motor to move a ways now don't...Point is get biggest motor u can afford for ur boat you'll never regret it. Higher voltage = less amp draw = longer run time (especially in the thick stuff)

Re: Trolling Motor - What size ??
Have a 50lb Minn kota powerdrive v2 on a 1748 and it moves faster than I can ever fish even in the wind.
