I have read this entire thread and all I can say is wow. I hunt on the Texas coast where rules are in place, you build a blind it is not your blind. You built it on public land, you had knowledge that you built it on public land, and therefore you do kit know it. All the OP was trying to do was establish set guidelines so everyone's rights were clear, because they apparently were not.

It seems as if ethical Hunters are becoming a dying breed. Instead of calling people names and harassing one another how about we support one another and try to retain the resource we enjoy so much; public hunting opportunities.

I am willing to bet if Dean keeps at it, this will no longer be "public hunting" property!!

I feel for all the people that hunt it. Sorry for your loss to come...

I've got everything under control. Gonna be very interesting.

Got to launch at 2:30 am. Only one other boat launching....some newbies. Loaded down with 3 hunters and 7 doz decoys, and more stuff than we needed. Couldn't get on step with highly pitched prop so had to chug along at about 10 mph to our destination., but we were first on water in North flats. Apparently the message got out about hunter interference laws and as soon as I flashed hunters headed to our location they turned away. Had excellent hunt. Switched prop after hunt and we're hauling ass now. Ready for tomorrow,....and the rain.

I think I might push a law that if you make over 100k you can't hunt public. It will be like an income cutoff on welfare.

Seems like this has less to do with how much money a guy makes and everything to do with DG being a guy who cant mind his own damn business.

Update:

At the last school board meeting the board attorney was to solicit a legal ruling from the Louisiana Attorney General on the issue of whether the laws regulating the granting of private hunting privileges over public section 16 lands were violated when private hunting privileges were inserted in an agricultural lease to a private individual. I was ridiculed, called an outsider, told my options meant nothing when I brought this issue to the attention of the school board. Well, I was correct. The opinion came back verifying what I had said at the meeting. The back door granting of those hunting privileges violated the public bid laws and therefore, are null and void. The matter was scheduled for discussion at yesterday's school board meeting so I went. The day before the meeting I call every member of the board to let them know I would be there at the meeting to speak on the agenda item and to answer any questions.

I showed up at the meeting. Just before the start time the board attorney asked if he could speak to me in private. He told me that board member Jimmy Blanchard, the board member who had put the matter on the agenda, was going to pull it off so the board could study the opinion and how it translate to all of its section 16 land and private blinds on them. He also told me that he was going to inform the private individual to whom the private hunting privileges had been illegally granted that he no longer had exclusive hunting rights.

Even though the item was being pulled from the agenda I stayed for the whole meeting just in case they would try to pull a fast one on me and reinsert the agenda item.

The regular meeting broke so the board could go into a private meeting to discuss litigation which they are permitted to do but only for that purpose. I noticed Board members Jimmy Blanchard and Steve Fuselier walk out of the meeting room into the foyer to meet with the individual whose private hunting privileges had just been declared null and void by the Attorney General. I followed them. I over heard their entire conversation. They did not know this. They told him they would arrange it so that he could still hunt the property privately and not to worry about the opinion. They were just not going to call his privileges a "lease". At this point I interrupted them. Advised that I had heard everything they had talked about and that they could not do in secret or circumvent what the letter of the law had prohibited. All hell broke lose at that point. I was again called an outsider, had no business interjecting myself on these issues. Board member Fuselier added that his father worked for the individual to whom the private hunting privileges had been granted and that he would not let me tell them what to do about it. The gentleman was going to hunt the property and no one else, no matter what the law said. I responded that their emotions had taken over and they were not reasoning properly. I actually used much stronger words than that. I told Fuselier that since he had a close relative financially connected to the lease holder he was now obliged to recuse himself from any deliberation or voting when the issue came up again before the board or he'd be in violation of the governmental ethical rules. He lost it at that point. We ended the conversation fairly close to a physical altercation. They then retreated to the private meeting with the rest of the board.

I enjoyed every second of it. I will not stand by and let injustice prevail.

It amazes me how thin skinned those individuals were. I thought Blanchard was going to have a heart attack.

I'm fixing to become the lawyer for a nonprofit organization, an environmental protection group that is familiar with monitoring issues like public hunting access to public lands. They've sued on similar public interest issues and brought a few local government entities to their knees obtaining court rulings in favor of the public and against big companies and private privileges.
