 my buck...
Hunted today behind my home. Perfect morning. Around 0730 I rattled in a small buck with his button buck side kick. Around 1030 rattled again and within a couple minutes the buck I shot came in. Shot him at 40 yards with my 458 SOCOM. He ran about thirty yards. Side note. ..The mallards were so noisy today you could not hear anything in the woods.

 Re: my buck...
There is no ammo restriction on how many rounds you can carry . and a 458 socom round is a larger round than 223 . They fit single stacked vs double stacked in the same mag , he didn't have 30 rounds in that mag . I carry a 30 round mag all the time while hunting with my AR .

Nice job working them in with the horns. Some of my biggest bucks came in on the horns.

 Re: my buck...
Remember the 458 socom is a thumper of a round. In a 20 rd m4 mag it holds 7 rounds and in a thirty it holds 11. The beauty is that the m4 mags hold the 458 only they are stacked and not staggered as with the 556. We cannot use centerfire rifles here in Indiana. The law allows the use of 'pistol cartridge' rounds to be used in a rifle. The socom is considered a 'pistol cartridge rife'. For the socom I like the shorter 7 round mag as its easier to shoulder and lug around to and from the stand. I just happen to have the 11 round mag in since the rifle is part of my home protection system. Plus all my buddies come by to shoot my socom so having live ammo handy can sometime be a issue. I had to taper back on them shooting the socom a month back so I did not have to handload some ammo for deer season.

 Re: my buck...
I'd shoot it too, but I can't find any ammo and am not set up to reload it.
Had the upper two years and never fired a shot out of it.

Wasn't tryin to step on toes. I just know in ms you can only have 5 rounds while deer hunting. Congrats on your buck

 Re: my buck...
For the socom to work for me I have to reload. My buddy Gary has the same exact setup I do but there was a big wait on brass a couple years ago and he was buying loaded ammo to shoot and reload. I got my order in earlier and got a pile of brass. The loaded ammo is higher than giraffe pussy. We messed around with the Barnes bullet that a lot of the socom deer hunters say to shoot however I'm shooting the 300 gr jacketed hp and can say that it works perfect for deer. When I shot the above buck the first thing I did is get down from the stand and look for the brass. You guys that have hogs would love the socom. I would like to crack some pork with mine that's for sure.
