 Extra Wide Trailer
Came across a smokin' deal on a pretty nice trailer. ONly problem is its almost 80" wide. My new rig is going to be 18x48". I figure I can move the bunks in.
ONly real drawback I can come up with is tougher to find a spot to launch in spots where there isn't a ramp?
Thoughts? Other things I should consider before buying?

 Re: Extra Wide Trailer
and when I say 80", I'm talking about the side runners.
Actual width is probably a touch wider.

 Re: Extra Wide Trailer
Not a trailer expert but have fitted a few boats to them...
The main thing is being able to adjust your bunks and/or rollers to get a nice solid stable (level) ride, and then securing it to the trailer properly.
If everything is adjustable (and it should be) and you can get it dialed in, it will look funny but work fine.
If your boat has longitudeal bracing then make sure your bunks don't hit right next to the braces but on the braces. Depending on the thickness of your bottom, it can dent and even crack it if you aren't on running right under the brace.
It would depend on how good a deal I was getting, and I would be just as concerned about the condition of the axle, bearings, hubs, and tires. A slightly bent (even almost not able to see with naked eye) axle can reak havic on your tires..... I just had that happen-had to pop a new axle on it ($200) and of course went thru a set of tires....

 Re: Extra Wide Trailer
I came across a good deal on a bay boat trailer for my 18'x48". It was a nice trailer, just too wide. I cut 16" out of the middle of the trailer and welded it back together, then narrowed the axle the same amount. Also made new bunk brackets so the boat would sit as low as possible on the trailer. I left it a little wider than I needed incase I put wider boat on it at later time. I think mine was 80" wide frame to frame before I cut it.

 Re: Extra Wide Trailer
I purchased an aluminum trailer for a 18' to 21' when I purchased my rig 3 year's ago because it was the smallest aluminum trailer I could find. I would trade it for the smaller trailer Pro-Drive offers in a heartbeat. Too wide for me. $2600 invested in it.
