Haven't been on for a while and have to admit I haven't kept up on the all the current changes in the MM world with hulls, mfrs, and motor mods. I finally decided to make a change from my 36 PD and Phowler hull due mainly to changes in the areas that I hunt. My hunting areas have changed from shallow water marshes to more flooded river type of hunting. The PD/Phowler combo does OK but I'm tired of going SLOWWWW when loaded down. I'm debating between changing set-ups altogether and going with a tunnel hull and jet or prop or possibly swapping out the motor for one of the newer EFI PD's. Am I gonna be happy with the "improvements" with the EFI? How much additional speed and load carrying capacity can I reasonably expect? The tunnel has it's drawbacks as well. Was looking at SeaArk hulls. Anybody have any experience with them? Fire away! I'm ready for the abuse.

The new pd have a new lower unit that is geard lower, has allot of low end but is slower on top. What size boat you looking into.

Pretty soon most mm manufactures will have efi, as briggs will be releasing their efi in next year or two. Doing heads gets best gains for the money

Do you have any mods on your current PD? How many hrs on it? When loaded what type of speeds are you seeing and what does the load weigh?

No mods. Only 74 hrs. Most of my fully loaded speeds (2 guys, dog, blind, decoys, gear, etc) are around 22 if I remember correctly. It's been a while since I GPS'd them and it was river running so not entirely accurate due to currents.

If you run 22 with that load right now, heads, exhaust, and carb or cam would probably get u high 20's easily. What are your goals?

I considered mods. Unfortunately, out here in CA I don't have a lot of machine shops/mechanics who are familiar enough with these motors and what needs to be done to them. By the time I pay to ship the motor and pay for mods, I was thinking I'm probably better off going with another motor. I think if I could get up in the 30-35 range fully loaded, I'd be VERY happy. If I could get around 30 with minimal cost output, I could live with that as well.

30 loaded is gunna cost you a lot of money.

I know. That's why I'm considering going with an altogether different set-up.

I think it really depends on whether or not you really still need a mud motor. The speed is an easy deal with an outboard, but (as mentioned previously) a very pricy proposition in mud motors.

SeaArks are solid production boats with a good reputation. However, they are not built like custom or semi-custom mud boats. Again, do you really need a boat built to slide on its bottom, smash into stuff and skip over laps and stumps?

Agreed. The mudmotor/boat is nice when I get into flooded backwaters and gets me places other guys can't go. Just not sure the cost justifies it. Just out of curiosity, what kind of speeds and load handling are you getting with your Stage 1 mods since we're running somewhat similar set-ups now?

Stage one you'll prolly +/- 27 add cam you should run 30+ if it does what my BS did...

As for a hull, I'm a fan of GO-DEVIL. The hull is a tank, can take a beating, has a good lay out
