Has anyone hunted Upper Ouachita NWR this year? I usually hunt down in Venice but we hardly ever get any Mallards so I was looking to try for someplace else for some green. That place looks like it could be good hunting but I have never been there. Its about 4.5 hours from my house so I would like a little info before I make that trek. Any help would be appreciated!

I have a narrow boat with a prodrive. Can you use mud motors up there? Down in the NWR at the mouth of the river, you can't use them but I didn't see any info on the website for Ouachita forbidding them.

We have a camp up there and it's been slow this year.
The only water is in the sanctuary. If the river ever gets up its good at times. But when it's good expect a crowd

Low water and folks piled up where the water is. Tough huntin in that place. Go to felsenthal. Lot of water and birds up there.

Felsenthal isn't the answer either, I've been up there this week and them ducks are set on expert mode

Go hunt the sanctuary. Heard you will limit out every time you go.

Felsenthal holds a ton of birds but they are tough to hunt (well at least to me). But I don't like huntin all that open water up there.

Hell yeah that is easy hunting! . And yeah I prefer. Timber and have a good looking hole only about 50 yards off the river in a creek!

Don't hunt out of the boat if you wanna kill mallards
