Humboldt Bay, California Youth brant hunt
I had the distinct pleasure of being invited along on a youth day brant hunt by one of my friends from work. Phil Grace is a devoted scull boater and brant hunter. His generosity in taking out this group of boys and setting up all the gear for them to enjoy a good hunt is admirable. His buddy Billy Costa pitched in to ensure everyone had a good time.. The old saying, "A good time was had by all' certainly describes this morning! The boys got lots of shooting and they all got their limits of 2 each. The dogs shared the retrieving duties. I'd never hunted brant myself but after this, it's going on my bucket list. You can tell by the smiles how much fun these guys had. It was great.
Here's the lineup on the shore with some birds starting to come
Winging into the blocks for a smack down
5 birds down the boys are cleaning up the cripples before the dogs go out
The Happy hunters and some happy Dads
My dog Tule with the take! He did about a 400 yard swim after one cripple which ended in disappointment when it dove and never resurfaced. It would have been nice to have him get it after the merry chase it gave him.
The cleanup and pickup!

Thanks for posting. Awesome scenery man. It's great to be exposed to some different topography and live thru another's eyes.
In the 4th pic down, is that little dog a Boykin Spaniel?

Outstanding post!
Brant hunting is something all its own and I'm glad that you were a part of sharing that with the younger generation.
Looks like they got a couple of monsters, too.
