 Anybody eat the big bull reds?Caught a nice one yesterday, heard something about them having worms when they're big like this. Any info on this?

Anybody eat the big bull reds? I usually keep them 22-24 if I have the choice. I have been before with 3 of us in the boat and couldn't get a limit cause everything was over 28". Finally after 2 1/2 hrs of non stop catching fish we finally had 8 28" fish, so I used a tag on a 29" just to have 3 to bring home. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1423548283.923971.jpg

Re: Anybody eat the big bull reds? we shot these three 28" the other night. Dunno how they will taste. I fileted them out completely, and cut as much of the red out as possible and made small filets then soaked them in I've water to bleed the meat a Lil more then set them on a cookie sheet in the freezer to dry them out a Lil and then vacuum packed them and put them in the freezer. I hope it will be worth all the trouble lol

Re: Anybody eat the big bull reds? Does the time of the year determine if those bulls have worms? I worked on a platform about 6 miles out and we caught a few of those big boys and they all had worms in the meat.

Re: Anybody eat the big bull reds? I agree that the the big boys up to about 30 inches are ok. I just prefer the smaller ones. Where I fish it is pretty easy to catch redfish so I try and keep the smallest legal ones I can. I love smoking the 18 inch reds
