Gator glide question, how about ya frog??
It's getting closer for my boat to be finished and I'm thinking about all the little things I'm gonna have to do to get it ready. One question I have that may sound dumb to some is should I paint the boat first and do the gator glide last or do the gator glide first and paint it last. Which way is easier? Or is it just personal preference? I'm guessing if I tape it off good it doesn't matter which one I do first. I'm hoping this doesn't come off as bow rope storage thread, lol.

I would do it while its not painted at all then just tape it off when you paint the boat. That way you got a good clean surface

Re: Gator glide question, how about ya frog??
When I got my boat (bare metal),I put the GG on first. Problem was when I went to tape off the GG to paint the boat, the tape wouldn't stick to the GG. I'm painting first next time.

Re: Gator glide question, how about ya frog??
Yes I would Gator Glide first to the bare aluminum and then paint. Tape it off like quack n stack said and paint the rest of the boat. Good part is if you get any paint on the gator glide I don't think it will stick. That stuff is slick as hell.

Re: Gator glide question, how about ya frog??
My hull was built and painted and just left the bottom unpainted. I'll tape off the sides a couple inches up and scuff the paint and do my GG.

Re: Gator glide question, how about ya frog??
Stupid question but I am curious. Could you paint after the GG and use steel wool to scrub the overspray off the GG?

Re: Gator glide question, how about ya frog??
You'd probably remove the GG too.

Re: Gator glide question, how about ya frog??
As long as the GG is cured well you could wipe of the overspray with acetone very easy if you did it right away. The steel wool will scuff it. Again the GG should be cured before trying any of this. Scotch bite pad would be a better choice over steel wool but will still scuff it a little. I try to mask or use a shield.

Re: Gator glide question, how about ya frog??
I used acetone to take the overspray off the GG. Not a big deal.

Re: Gator glide question, how about ya frog??
That is a nice paint job, I'm just going with aluminum boat green from duralux, then I have the slate gator base and the graphite g2.

After reading this thread I am glad I decided to have KP add it to my new rig before I recieve it. It is worth the money to have him do it professionally for me.
