I have ordered my lights ( 10 48 watt led) and i would like to wire them up so that i can run on batteries and when the batteries die i can turn on a small generator and not have to call it a night. how would i go about this. i cannot find any ac to dc converters that would allow me to run these lights off of a generator. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

I was just looking at LED strip lights on Amazon yesterday. I saw a few converters from 110V to 12 V. Here's an example:

thanks i just found those my self. i think the question i should be asking is how can i connect a small generator to the batteries to keep them charged wile using the lights. i think that this would be the easiest method so i do not have to buy ten of those little inverters.

You just need a convertor from your generator to the battery. Figure your total amp load then add 5-10 amps and that should be the number your looking for. I use powermax brand converters.

Watts divided by volts= amps. 48wx10=480w 480w/12 volts=40amps. So you need a convertor rated for 40+ amps. The convertor still needs to be hooked to the battery and can also be used as an onboard charger but must be kept dry. Look up powermax pm55 convertor. Its a 55 amp convertor that will pull around 750watts at full load on your generator. Reason I said hook to battery is so the battery will absorb and balance the load. I have seen people hook them up strait to the lights and fry the lights

To help understand a convertor is it puts out what ever is asked for. If your load is 5 amps it will put out 5 if your load is 40 it will put out 40. Depending on the load is how much it will pull on your generator.
