Post Running a Surface Drive or a Longtail on a TUNNEL hull?
I have an 18 foot Sea Ark with a tunnel hull. I'd like to run a surface drive, but am thinking that the tunnel might hurt the performance. I called Sea Ark and they said that it should NOT effect negatively performance.

Is anyone running a rig like this?

Thanks,

Dave

The tunnel won't help you at all. It might hurt you. Worst case, if you love the boat just seal up the tunnel.

either da morons at Sea Anchor aren't really sure how a tunnel is supposed to work..... or dey ain't really sure how a MM works. Either way they're wrong.... sure it'll work but not worth a damn.

Either close da tunnel up and then put a MM that corresponds with da transom height once da tunnel is closed.... or just get rid of it completely and get a rig better suited for a MM to begin with.

Have to use a longer outdrive with it to get the best performance but its definitely not the best set up.

A buddy of mine has a Gatortrax hyper tunnel and tried to run a PD on it and it sucked. The tunnel threw water right into the gear knuckle. SD mud motors are supposed to run on top of the water not through the water column created by how a tunnel works. He filled in the tunnel and his rig does well now.
