Re: mud viper born
Not bad but it has a vibration at 3200 rpm trying figure what it is but she jumps on step like nothing, can't run it empty WOT cause the boat jumps out the water to bad, and really didn't want speed wanted power to carry load and be able to maintain good crusing speed. Still having issue with flywheel cause had to make crankshaft output shaft, flwheel, starter mount and every thing else. Hopeing to get everything nailed down by this weekend.

How is the Torque down low? About how much gear reduction you have to sling the prop at a decent RPM?

Re: mud viper born
Yep had everything balanced as I assembled actually got the flywheel less than 1/2 gram don't know how I did that by luck I guess, I also put it on my regular homeade boat that I built a year ago which is very heavy,(about 800-1000 lbs) and made everything quick connects so I can put my prodrive back on if needed to hunt management. Will post somemore pictures, in the mudmotor pictures area.

Re: mud viper born
With my prodrive with the simular load it would of ran about 24/25 mph maybe and when the motor was stage 3 empty the fastest I ever got was about 34 mph. I can now carry the same load and still run about the same as the prodrive stage 3 unloaded. The low end torque is unreal, I really don't think that the electric clutch will last it will probably be the weak link in the whole project, and it is actualy all the same GTR lower unit as stock except that the prop that hoyt gave me has more pitch and cup I think it maybe a Tiger prop not sure, which he said that they could only turn that prop about 3600 rpm.

Re: mud viper born
Thank you buster, have more pictures but can only load three a day, also I don't want anyone pissed at me but when I came up with the idea I went talk to kyle and hoyt at gator tail and they gave me the lower unit, as a gentlemans aggreement I told him I would give him all the drawings and templates that I made if this worked and he if wanted to duplicate it was his decision, I do not want anything out of this, it was done just to see if I could make one, by trying to make something more reliable. I don't no if Kyle is going to make this or not maybe just for them to play with. It is Kyles decision but I can tell you a Mud buddy would be much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! simpler because you would not have to make a new crankshaft stub and split the engine in halve to do it. Reassembling a 5 piece crankshaft and truing it took me at least 8 hours of throwing wrenches madness.

Re: mud viper born
Looks good, interested to see if it will be more reliable. I'm not someone to piss on anyones parade but Im sure you have heard the saying, "Hear no evo, see no evo, speak no evo." Curious as to why the evo and not a twin cam "B" as it has an internal balancer?

Re: mud viper born
When I started I never seen a v twin harley up close, I have rebuilt just about every other engine though and all are basically the same, so I looked at blueprints of v-twins and found that the evo has a 1.25 spocket shaft that is removeable if you have the 5 piece crank type, so all you would have to do is make a new spocket shaft reduced down to 1.125, split the motor in halve change the shaft align everything and your on the road, but the flywheel (which you have to make , the first pictures were a flexplate this didn't work finally had to make my own flexplate and weld a ring gear on then balance) mounts behind the 38 amp stator charging system and it is spinning in front of the clutch which is not the same as a briggs and thats where the fun begins. Like I said earlier it would be much simpler if there was no neutral or reverse it allready comes with the splines for a belt drive!!!!. As for balance the 5 piece is balanced good the shake mostly comes from the cam duration so all you have to do is get a milder cam. It takes maybe 15 minutes to swap cam because its under the little front cover where then ignition module is which already has advance curves selection dip switches and over rev shut down selection from 6k-8k rpms. these motor already have roller hydralic lifters, roller rockers, forged pistons and high volume oil pumps, some of the gaskets are also reuseable. When i opened it up and looked inside I said DAMN!! I like what I see! NOTHING CAST THATS A IDEA!

Re: mud viper born
yes it does have reverse ,forward and neutral actually I am working on installing a hydralic motorcycle brake lever micro switch so when you squeeze the hangle for reverse it automatically goes into nuetral then reverse by disconecting the electric clutch even though the switch is still engaged, I thought that would be the bomb when your frogging cause you won't have to look for the switch in the dark when pulling up to the bank. instant reverse then back to forward. got the engine cheap paid $1800 for it from a guy on ebay that builds chopper frames and he used it as a template for mounting holes clearance ect. When I bought it he said it was a 96 CI but when I took it down to make the stub crank I found out it was a 80CI and I already ordered the 96 crank cause it wasn't a 5 piece. So I had to make it a 89 by changing pistons. The guy called me latter to see how things were going with it, and when I told him about it being a 80 he sent me back 500 bucks. Guest I got about 3000-3500 in it probably. almost 3 months time.

Looks nice and well thought out. Try the 88B engine it will help with the vibration issue. WV harley is a good source for them.

Re: mud viper born
Nicely done. On a balanced frame with enough turning radius you can get by with out a clutch or reverse, With my go-devil the only time I miss reverse is docking that big old hard blind in the wind. Dug at DM block raceland louisiana has a gear box that has no clutch that may work. It "s light and they use it in 1200 hp dragsters it should hold up. he said you can go forward to reverse at full power. I have not seen it all I know is what he told me.
