Post Need pairing advice, please
Hey guys... I recently picked up a Tracker Grizzly 1448 and i love it. It currtenly has a 25 merc "flyway" edition on it and it pushes the boat great with two guys and full gear( which is usually how many i hunt) i get right around 22-24 with that load. My only issue is i cannot go through the lillies and the mud worth a damn as I could with my last rig ( which was just a POS with a POS longtail) i plan on selling this motor and upgrading to a surface drive but I am not sure on which one would be best? Or what size? Or if my transom can handle it?! ...Still would like to run that speed and get through everything that i need to get through. I was looking into the mudbuddy lites but just do not know ?! Any and all advice is greatly appreciated !

Ps. The hull weight of my boat is : 437 lbs ( give or take)
And its a mod V hull

Thanks again!

I believe the consensus on here is grizzly's and surface drives aren't the best combos. But imo u should get the highest hp u can afford.

if it's jsut 2 guys usually and your mostly worried about lillies and a little mud.... I would think long and hard about a 23 Copper head and mod the crap out of it!! There's a chance you could actually top the 22-23 MPH but you should atleast hit that mark i think. I would worry about a big block on that little boat. Too much weight, a copper head is way lighter

Best bet is to go with A moded 23 or a 25 mini from mudbuddy if you want neutral, or a 23/25 from copperhead if you want a simple well built frame. since that boat is so small. I have an 18hp on my 1448 grizzly and wish i would have went bigger

Short i am pretty sure? Runnin a short shaft motor on it currently ... The motor weighs about 125 is what the website said so just want to make sure it could handle an extra 30 or so ?

transom if fine but i would suggest building it up to accommodate a long shaft motor so it is less likely of water coming over the back
