 Advantage Mud motor kit
Does anyone have any experience with these motors ? Specifically the surface drive frame. Pros/cons? Any information appreciated. Thanks

 Re: Advantage Mud motor kit
Looks like what would happpen if a dixie, orion and mangrove all got together.
Chain driven, website says its a universal kit (price is the same for each kit). I wonder if they each have the same prop? Through my limited reading, I couldnt see what size props were going on each unit.
Personally I'd save my money and wait to see how they are before going through the headache of fixing it if its junk or doing the R&D for them. The pics don't look very promising.

 Re: Advantage Mud motor kit
I asked them about prop size and didn't get much info other than they are sized appropriately to hp of engine - haha already have frame ordered so I guess I'm doing R&D for them - was just seeing if someone has one yet- I have a motor so when it comes in and I get it painted and put together I'll post my findings

 Re: Advantage Mud motor kit
When props hit stuff and they are belt driven the belt can slip and absorb shock. The chain cannot, it's direct trauma

 Re: Advantage Mud motor kit
Plus unless you have an oiler on the chain, if it gets wet it will tend to rust and seize up making it run rough and possibly causing it to break, which will leave you stranded and having to be towed in unless you keep master link parts and tools in the boat

Bad wording. Stretch would have been a better verb

I'll check when I get home - this is it compared to a 6 1/2" longtail prop I had on a 6.5hp

 Re: Advantage Mud motor kit
Looks like your bottom engine bolts may be in upside down. ? You might need the room for clearance when the engine is rotating The Advantage Mud Motor looks nice though.

 Re: Advantage Mud motor kit
How does it run Darel?
I looked at them once, but their customer service seemed to be garbage. They wouldn't answer any questions - kept directing me to their website, which didn't show what I wanted to know.

 Re: Advantage Mud motor kit
Runs as expected so far -haven't put it through anything that an outboard couldn't do yet -just put it on my 1544 waiting on registration and I'll get back to you
