FYI, if you ever R&R a cover that came with sealant only, go to your Ford dealer and ask for a 7.3L oil pan gasket. They'll hand you a tube of grey (silicone) magic. Take said magic home and apply it to your motor  if you ever need to take it off again, have hammer and chisel on standby. Won't leak though.

Newest motors are coming with sealant only. I have used Yamabond 4 on them.

Yama bond holding up? I have taken an oil pan off a power stroke and I don't know if I want to quiet that strong in the bonding dept. although that maybe what it takes.

The Yamabond has held to date. I took one apart recently that was sealed with Yamabond and had to really lever on the 3 tabs on the case to get it to let go.

I did check out the Motorcraft TA-31 used on the 7.3L diesels- I like that it comes in a tube you can apply with a caulk gun.

I just did a case gasket this morning with the Motorcraft TA-31- that stuff is the stickiest RTV I have ever come across. I expect it will seal well.

Have the majority of the tube left over, not sure how well it will keep though.

Like you've got it, it'll last a long time. Several months I'd say. I always just leave a little hanging out the end and hang the gun up. Then pull the tab off the end when you need to use it again. I normally go thru a tube every month or so doing various things.

SETx, You think that sealant will fix a hairline crack in a PD sump? I have 2 that have cracked in the same place on a 2007. Thanks,

Replied to your PM but in short, yes, I think it will work as a temp fix.

I just seen this link on Permatex's site. Its called MOTO1. it is specifically designed for case halves. It is probably similar to Yamabond.

That is what I am using this time along with a gasket, even though ultra grey has worked well. I screwed the pooch and didn't pay attention to my bolts. Motor is apart in the shop now.

I'm using the permatex anaerobic sealant along with the gasket. Seems OK to me so far. I've had to break the case twice since I started using this method, both times it looked OK when I pulled it apart. Just as long as you check and maintain appropriate torque on the bolts, there are at least 3 or 4 ways to skin this cat.
