Re: Pass a L'Outre is Next
Do y'all really have that many jackasses down there running up ducks all day or is it more aimed at the boats themselves?

It's a state regulation here in Arkansas on all wma's. Honestly it's a good idea because it will let the ducks rest and not run them out of the area.

That sucks, another display of good having to suffer for the bad. Im with Flint87, cant believe there is that many people running around there in the afternoons running up ducks.

It's incrementalism. It's a strategy employed by the left in pursuit of it's political and social objectives. This tactic is used by the environmental whack jobs everyday. They disguise it in some good that everyone would see but it is always a trojan horse exercise. They will do it with guns until they are illegal. They did it in SC with air boats. Watch out, they are coming for the mud motors, the 4 wheelers, the snowmobiles, hunting and the guns. A classic Alinsky tactic.

Simple...... throw a liquid cooled motor on your surface drives.
It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

There are already regulations governing liquid cooled engines on boats.

Re: Pass a L'Outre is Next
I'm not opposed to 2 pm restriction on hunting, but if they're going to ban mudmotors they have to do the same for outboards. Or just restrict areas any vessel can traverse that is shallow and define shallow so it's clear where one cannot go. Sounds like a topic for discussion for the SWBA.

I dont know of any public land in texas besides the bay (not land) that you can hunt after noon-1ish. They all require you to be off at a specific time. The geography is different here vs. LA which I'm sure makes it easier to enforce here.

Re: Pass a L'Outre is Next
still leaves too much room for interpretation. I hunt down there and use a mud motor. If I am set up hunting before 2 pm and then pick up at dark, would i be in violation if I dont use my motor after 2 pm but pick up and head back to the camp site? The only way true way is to ban hunting after 2 pm or restrict it for all motors unless in a deep waterway such as the main passes and tributaries? What about the guys who lease private property but traverse the WMA to get to thier spots (Southeast pass)? Majority of guys hunt, fish and camp using just their mudmotors. If you ban mud motors, you need to ban them all (i am not for that just to be clear). Other considerations? SAT SUN WED THUR hunts (just like Federal Refuges)? no hunting after 2 pm? Develop a couple of refuge area with no access at all? (Understand we have an LAA already)

Re: Pass a L'Outre is Next
That's my beef with shutting down the WMA to surface drive traffic. Like I said, I'm driving my rig 19 miles to get there. I'm spending two nights there, minimum. I'm not going down there just for ducks. And, as previously mentioned in another post, there is a limited access area already dedicated to no combustion engines. So, the birds already have a place to "rest."

Re: Pass a L'Outre is Next
Duck dynasty ruined it for the people who already water fowl hunted before the show. I used to be able to go to cheyenne bottoms here in ks on opening day of teal and see 4 boats. Now you see about 60

Re: Pass a L'Outre is Next
JakeHawk, when attending CGSC in 2008-09 at Leavenworth, I had my HD and GT and hunted both Jamestown and Cheyenne bottoms among other walk in places not widely known!! We slaughtered the ducks. At most I saw maybe three to four groups of hunters at both places. I had the only non-outboard with LA tags to boot. Kansas is or was a great place to hunt and kill mallards. Most hunted flea bags and could care less about ducks. I assume that's all changed based on what you are saying? That's too bad.

Re: Pass a L'Outre is Next
It's changed alot. You have people scouting with mud motoes. When before there was so little traffic you didn't necessarily have to scout. You just had to drive by and see which pool the ducks were flying in. Now a ton of people sit just off of the dikes and sky blast the shit out of em. The amount of boats now is crazy. You don't see many foot hunters. Which is fine. It's easier with a boat. But when people are driving through multiple people's decoys to get to their spot after shooting light it's jackassery. Like I said opening day of teal or big duck you better get there early or you'll walk a mile to park your truck after launching. The amount of duck hunters here probably quadrupled since the show came out. The little town I live in. Almost all the kids duck hunt. You drive by the high school and you think there's a waterfowl convention going on with all the damn stickers on their trucks. And it's not just my town. It's the same everywhere. After high school when a college friend introduced me to duck hunting I'm pretty sure I was the only person in my town under the age of 40 that water fowl hunted.
It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

Re: Pass a L'Outre is Next
Here's my two cents. I hunt on a private lease as does everyone else for miles around me. Its not a law, but more like an unwritten rule that no one hunts after noon with exception to opening and closing weekends. Our birds get time to settle down and everyone kills birds. I personally wouldn't mind a noon or 1:00 curfew if it was imposed on everyone. Singling out "mudboats" is ludacrous.
On another note...since when is it legal to shoot from a boat under power (anywhere)??!! Sounds like some game wardens need to start doing their frigging jobs!

It's pretty clear cause and effect to me. There's a direct correlation to the tv show and the heightened interest in waterfowl hunting

Re: Pass a L'Outre is Next
Warning long winded Rant but, Since yall talking about the running and gunning BS. I'll tell ya a little story about my experiences the past couple of years. I hunt a private lease and all the land I the area is private! There isn't any public land nearby! But every year we get jackasses that ride around both chasing rafted ducks and running them down and shooting them. I have witnessed and have taken videos of people doing this(unfortunately I haven't been able to get any numbers). In one particular case two days in a row the same boat came running through the area 1 man running the motor and 1 man sitting on the bow shooting at ducks. I proceed to call wildlife and fisheries operation game theif. They put me in contact with the local GW. I explain the situation to him and give him coordinates, even offer to come meet him at the ramp and bring him out to the area(which he declines saying he knows where I am). Watched them for an hour doing this to the north of my lease. The following weekend they were right back at it again. Called wlf again and they put me in contact with the local agent again. He then asks me "Well are you sure they aren't just shooting Pouldeau?" I answered "Are you kiddin me?!" At this point I gave up on calling them.
Sorry for the long winded rant but thought I'd share this!
P.S. I know there has to be some GWs on this site. That would love to catch these jackasses. And I can provide plenty of intel.

Re: Pass a L'Outre is Next
People like the ones I described are the idiots that are ruining it for mudmotor users. If a better effort was made to prosecute the ones running ducks and the outlaws that run and gun birds. We wouldn't have near as many complaints about mudmotors. This issue is just like the government's stance on guns. The law abiding citizen is not the issue here. But they would rather just ban em altogether.

If the issue at P-A-L is running down ducks, then obviously better enforcement is the solution.
Those running down birds will continue to do this...and just stop at 2:00.
