Post Excel f4 bouncing really bad unless motor trimmed way down
I've got a new 1754 excel swv4 and while driving the boat will bounce like crazy unless I have motor trimmed way down. I've got the new 4400 HDR on it. I've never had this problem out of my other boats or friends boat. Has anybody had this problem

Here's a short video of it. It I trimmed up to how I've driven every other mud boat it jumps way worse

Mine will bounce with no weight in the front. I have 13 gallon tank and battery up front but I still have to put a 65 cooler with ice in the front to keep from bouncing if I get above 28-29. Also mine will bounce worse with different props too. I don't have any problems if someone is riding with me though.

Hell mine runs like 23-24 with how I gotta run the motor. I've run 3 people 1 sitting on front deck and still does it. Not as bad though

If your boat is bouncing it is a balance thing. You need to move stuff around in the boat. Take weight out of the back put weight in the back. Just move it around and see what works. You may have waterlogged foam in the back adding a lot of weight too. Some folks weld beads on the back of the bottom of the boat to fight bounce too. Did you try with both of them sitting on the front? And how big of a person is sitting on the front. Putting 2 200 pound guys in the back and a 150 pounder on the front deck will not balance.

I would check the foam, make sure gas is up front, add a bead of jbweld to the back and see if it forces the front down. Glad mine doesn't bounce a bit. I always hated riding in airboats that porpoised. Makes for a rough ass uncomfortable ride.

Boat is a brand new 2016 that's been out maybe 4 times and I've pulled plug every time. I'll try moving people around but to me a boat shouldn't do that. For the mornings I go by myself are gonna suck cause I won't have a way to keep it from bouncing. I have tank, 2 bows, waders, trolling motor up front and just me and the battery's in back. Person in middle of boat on left side bench

Had another guy here with the same issue, moving all the weight to the back fixed his. When I run solo, mine does the same thing when I get past 33. Add a guy and our hunt gear and have him sit at the back and it stops. Sometimes you need more weight up front, sometimes in the back. Got to just figure out is it weight in the front you need or in the back. Some need it one way, some the other.

Think about you, 2 batteries and a 300+ pound motor in the back of the boat. At the very back of the boat for that matter. Now think about 6 gallons of gas 2 bows and a TM that is toward the front, not even on the very front... Balance you boat and fix your problem. You may be kin to my son. #hardheaded

Post Re: Excel f4 bouncing really bad unless motor trimmed way do
My motor is 275, have 1 battery and gas. It stops porpoising when I add weight to the back. Takes more weight in the front to achieve the same result. So hard headed or not, I don't consider it a big issue, nor am I still having issues with it. I'm not saying balancing isn't important and your advice isn't quite useful, but porpoising occurs because lift at the rear of the boat causes the front down, which creates more drag, which causes the back to set down, and the cycle repeats itself. Adding more weight to the rear to prevent too much lift from forcing the bow down into the water too much solves that issue. Trimming the motor down creates more drag at the rear of the boat as well as forcing the front down at a controlled angle, which can have a similar effect to adding weight to the rear or front of the boat. Adding weight to the front creates more drag forward of the center of gravity, which effectively prevents the bouncing as well, but may or may not be as efficient. Not really an effective way of measuring the difference in our applications, nor is it enough to matter.

I'll add, if you were running a prop that provided more lift to prevent the rear of the boat from dropping when the front created that extra drag, you wouldn't have the problem either, or it wouldn't be as pronounced.

The second best thing you can do make a trim tab by welding a flat piece of aluminum on the bottom of the transom dead even with the bottom of the hull and tweak it down with a rubber mallet just enough to make it quit but not so much it starts forcing the front down. Your boat will pick up speed as well because it will lift more out of the water (less drag).

Yea I get that I've got a lot more weight in the rear. But when I boat is basically empty and it rides like that something isn't right. If I trim up like how I used to run my gator trax and mud buddy my new boat will be jumping 4 ft in the air. How do I post the video?

Also this is a 1754 with the 4400 HDR. It's topping out around 25-26. I've talked to a few people who swore they could run 30 with same rig.

Move weight or add trim tab. You'll figure it out from there. Be careful chasing whatever speed claims you get from others. Sometimes those can be a bit exaggerated.
