New guy in need of advice
I'm having troubles deciding on what motor hull combo would best fit my situation. It will mostly be used for duck hunting 3-4 guys and up to 120 decoys. We typically hunt about half open water and half shallow marsh. I'm looking for an 1860 just not sure on brand or what size motor I would need. Thank you

Re: New guy in need of advice
Any 35hp and up would push that boat, if you want reverse go mud buddy, gator tail or prodrive. If you want a simple motor with no power trim/reverse, theres godevil. As for a hull, it all comes down to what custom builder you like best.

Re: New guy in need of advice
do you have to have a custom mud hull or can you get a lowe or tracker grizzly or something of the like? the marshes I hunt don't have stumps or rocks so I don't think I would need a thicker material than a standard boat

to get the best performance considering your load and boat size, a custom hull or a hull made by any of the mm manufacturers is the way to go, if you know that you wont be hitting stumps etc. you could co with a flat bottom express/ weld built type hull. Stay away from tracker grizzly type boats that have a mod v, it kills performance

Re: New guy in need of advice
In my past experience I tried to go cheap. My first boat didn't have reverse and the boat wasn't built for a surface drive. It was fun for about a month then I wanted more. Get a big boat and get one built for a mud motor. You'll be glad you did later on.

Do it right the first time, it'll be cheaper in the end. Is your marsh soft mud or does it have hard sand?

I went the cheap route and realized right away how much it sucked. Your best bet would be an 1854 and your 37hp motor of choice.

What part of the country do you live in ? There are plenty of good custom builders .
