 Beavertail surface drive
They were one of the most expensive surface drives on the market at one point, so i'm not sure the " get what you pay for" argument is the best one to make.
From what i've seen, they were bulky, awkwardly built, no frills, overpriced, and had bad service to boot.
The old longtails were ok, but the guy who really brought that business along is now running backwater.

Those saying that they are junk probably never owned or ran one and are loyal to their rubber band motor.

 Re: Beavertail surface drive
I'm not gonna outright say they're junk. I'm sure they're better than a dixie, but I think there are much better options at better price points with better service.

 Beavertail surface drive
I don't see what could be so wrong with them. They have an electric clutch like most motors now and run the same power plant so the lower unit may be their fault. I know I talked with them last year when I was buying my boat because the builder had one on the back...they are beavertail dealers...they supposedly have a reverse in the works but the price will be north of $9500. I opted for the Gator tail for reverse and a proven history and it was a difference of 3G's more with the GTR. But there was a guy who posted earlier this year and he was having issues running their boat with their SD not pushing the boat in the shallows and mud
