 Gun recommendation
Thinking about getting a new rifle. Been a while since I've been in the market for one and looking for suggestions in case there's something new out. Not looking to break the bank. Just want a solid shooter. Only interested in a 308 bolt.

 Re: Gun recommendation
The Ruger American rifles are a really good value for what you pay. All of the reviews put them ahead of others in its class like the Thompson center icon and the savage.

 Re: Gun recommendation
Tikka t3 and any savage that has the features you want. Neither trigger will need work, and are sufficiently accurate from the box for anything short of long range competition, and some models would even be suited for that. For the money, the savage axis is pretty nice, and Remington's tried and true 700 is fine in any conversation on this subject, as well.

 Re: Gun recommendation
1. Winchester mdl 70 Great gun, not the greatest tack driver, controlled feed bolt, everything ya need in a hunting rifle....
2. Weatherby Vanguard sub MOA Awesome rifle all around, push fed bolt, composite stock is a minus for me...
3. Remington 700 Fine rifle, triggers usually suck, push fed bolt...
This's only my opinion... A fella can't go wrong with one of those three.

 Re: Gun recommendation
I am a fan of the Browning A bolt. They made a heavy target 308 a couple years ago. Look for one of those. Winchester feather weights are pretty nice too. Make sure to get one made in Columbia

 Re: Gun recommendation
I agree with mizzippi jb for the price the ruger American rifle is as solid as they come. You wont get more bang for your buck other than the ruger. If you want something nicer and have the coin I would go with a Remington XCR or SPS. Your budget and preference will dictate your purchase if your like me. The two brands I mentioned above are ones I know will serve you well.

 Re: Gun recommendation
Sounds like a nice gun banded. I may look that one up. Last rifle I bought was a Savage 3006. Probably paid less for it than any rifle I've ever bought but it sure shot good and was very accurate. I'm kinda having a mental battle... I'm also considering a glock in 10mm..lol. Wish I could do both but that's a nogo.

 Re: Gun recommendation
It is extremely difficult to beat a Tikka T3 for out of the box value.
I'd take it over a piece of shit unaltered 700 action, any day of the week.

 Re: Gun recommendation
I would not get a 700 that is less than 10 years old. There has been too much shit that has gone wrong with them... Having said that. I have a sendaro that had serious accuracy problems. They fixed it without any questions. So, if you get a turd they have good just service.

Going to try to get to a gun shop to put hands on some. The Savage Scout has my attention. Just need to look up close.

 Re: Gun recommendation
Dont rule out TC venture, I sell guns part time at a shop and have saw those guns put out some serious groups and 500 yards. all the other mentioned are also good, but i feel remingtons QC is not what it used to be

 Re: Gun recommendation
I like remingtons and ruger I really do but standing in the shop trying out guns for fit weight and features. I can't get over the tikka. Light, adjustable trigger, smooth action, here factory fitted suppressors and cheap enough. Hell they are a Sako trimmed down to a price point.
I wish remington would get their shit together and just build them with features that people actually want.

 Re: Gun recommendation
Lol Thx for the info crews. What caught my eye was the compact look and the mag capacity. I shoot a 390 Beretta w/24" barrel shotgun..... I mainly want something on the smaller side and not a long ass gun.
Will I was hoping to stay around 6-700 when I buy. I'm not a big deer hunter. Actually haven't hunted deer in 8-10 yrs. I just got bored with it and even when I killed nice deer I really didn't give a shit or get excited...so I quit going. My oldest is wanting to go tho and I've wanted a good 308 so I thought I would do some looking. I won't be for my daughter tho, she'll be toting a 3030.

 Re: Gun recommendation
Another vote here for a 700 5R. A little spendy but a fantastic little gun. Real B&C stock, just needs a slight bed job and trigger and she's golden.

Another vote for ruger American rifle. Love mine. Light for walking thru woods. Good trigger (adjustable). Smooth action. I'm very happy with the one I got.

 Re: Gun recommendation
In reality, the best way to go is buy a cheap ass pawn shop long action 700 in any caliber that has the same bolt face as a 308. (Because it's cheaper than buying a new action alone) Trash the stock, trigger and barrel and start over with a long action 308. Custom builds are the best. The triggers we speak of are in ounces, not pounds. The groups are 1/4moa, not coke can at 100 yards. Epoxy the rail to action, bed the stock, true everything. Do a break in procedure, and for the love of God, keep the barrel clean. Haha 2 different recipes, 3 shot groups, same poi, 200yards...

 Re: Gun recommendation
Here here! Nothing like a custom build from scratch, exactly what you want. I did the same thing.
If a guy wanted a nice rifle and wanted to save a lil money on machine work, a Tikka with a new stock, and a quality barrel is the way to go.

 Re: Gun recommendation
I bought my sendaro under duress. It shot great after Remington fixed it but now I need to replace the trigger. So I am an 11 for the rifle, 275 for a jewel trigger. Hopefully it will be reliable after that. Granted... it will shoot a 1/2" group. But then again... so did my A bolt once I dialed in my boss.
Adjustable triggers... I do not see the allure. I have my hunting rifles set to 2-2 1/4 lbs and then they are done.
