Saw something today on my PD
Mine is a 2007 36 PD and I ordered some new plug ends. I have read here about spark shorts to the shrouding from the boots. But looking things over I'm not happy to see the plug wires leaving the sheet metal without a grommet. I have worked on and owned a number of Military air cooled flat 4 cylinders for gen-sets, they all had grommets where the wires left the shrouding. What say's the folks that put lots of hours on theirs?

I wrapped electrical tape on any wire where they passed through metal with edges. I check it fairly regularly. Never had any issues that adding a new wrap of tape doesn't fix.

I like to put black silicone around wires after assy. Keeps them from vibrating and cutting

I put small split loom on my plug wires along with a grommet (redundant I know).

Re: Saw something today on my PD
I take a drillbit and drill out the hole in the top cover big enough to where the wires pass freely, then I put some tape on the plug wire. otherwise a tight fitting cover will ruin your plug wires.

Re: Saw something today on my PD
I must say, that on my Kawi, they thought of that. The Kawasaki has a rubber/plastic liner that's around the plug wire the entire way from coil to end. Found it by accident when I tried to install my Tach wire. I had to strip back about 1" near the plug so that the wire would get a good reading. Before, the tach was erratic. Best bet is to take some 1/4" fuel line, slice it open and put it around the plug wire similar to wire loom, should work and protect well.
