 PD 37 EFI slow?
Just wondering how everyone else's 37 EFI's are speed wise?
I have a PD 18x54 hull and riding solo with nothing in the boat I'm lucky to pull 25mph. I bought the rig for fishing as the area I fish the most is very shallow and full of grass. Just this morning me (215lbs), my wife (115lbs), and sons gf (115lbs) with two ice chest (one with drinks and one with just ice) and the best we could pull at 4300 RPM's was 22mph.
If that's all she'll do then I guess I'll deal with it, but it sure would be nice to be pushing a little bit closer to 30mph.

 Re: PD 37 EFI slow?
Hmmm. Make sure it isn't an older gen III lower unit. Also, don't take speeds posted on here very seriously. Some 30mph motors are on light boats, and some 30 mph boats, are really running 26-28.

 Re: PD 37 EFI slow?
It sure does sound like you have the gem III lower. Also, GTR is supposed to be a little faster than Pd but I kinda don't buy that. You also don't have a tiny boat.

 Re: PD 37 EFI slow?
What's up with the gen 3 lower unit? Did they gear it down or something? My buddies that have PD's that are a few years older are all couple miles an hour faster than mine.

 Re: PD 37 EFI slow?
Yes, they went to a 2:1. Goal was to make a motor that carried a load better, but result was more of an all around turd. They do have a lot of bottom end, but really, they went too far with it. That's why they changed back.

 Re: PD 37 EFI slow?
Well I just bought the boat and its brand new. Whatever the newest motor is. I can say this I've had this thing in canals that are completely blocked off with alligator weed and it bogs a little but keeps on chugging. Definitely has low end.

 Re: PD 37 EFI slow?
I've got a friend with a new gen 4 pd with the same problems. Is an 18' tdx. It probably has 20 hours on it or so and I can tell you that's it's slower than a gen 3. He has a new prop on it and it seems to run fine mechanically but it's slow out of the hole and slower on the top end. I don't know what the deal is.

 Re: PD 37 EFI slow?
Yea mine is slow as all get out from the hole. Not too bad in real shallow water but terrible in anything over 4' deep.

Yall really should talk to prodrive with those complaints. They know those things better than anyone else.

 Re: PD 37 EFI slow?
X's 2 on what Russ said.
And if you don't have the Gen III lower, and indeed to have the Gen IV, something has to be wrong. The Gen IV 37PD I drove for a couple days was pretty impressive to me with load carrying, speed, hole shot, just about everything.

 Re: PD 37 EFI slow?
Maybe so, jj. But if it's not running right for whatever reason before the mods, and it's not just the power head causing poor performance, then mods will only get it to where it should be. Everything needs to be right, first.

 Re: PD 37 EFI slow?
If you want it to go faster call Jesse and Franklin Small Engines. Prodrive dealer that does EFI mods. 337-828-4057
The 18x54 isn't a fast boat.

 Re: PD 37 EFI slow?
Mods will help you tremendously, although your speed sounds a little low. I have a custom 1854 center console that is considerably heavier than the Pro-Drive boats, and I'm running right around 33 with just me in the boat at 4700 rpms. Gen 4 lower unit.
If you have hydro steering, cut the torque tab off the skeg.

 Re: PD 37 EFI slow?
Gotcha. I was assuming u meant on a stock motor because u didn't say it was a modded motor.

 Re: PD 37 EFI slow?
I talked with Calen over at delta performance. He was very helpful and they definitely sound like they stand behind their work. Got me on the books and I'll be bringing my rig in as soon as they have an opening.
