 37 HP EFI on Mudbuddy
Hey guys, I'm new around here and I'm from North Alabama. I just replaced my 35 stock engine with a 37 HP EFI on my Mudbuddy Sport HD. Just curious on what everyone's take is on the new 37's. I know they had some issues to begin with, but I think they have them ironed out. I will be taking mine out this weekend, so I will post more on how it does. I have it on a 1648 GoDevil hull.

Re: 37 HP EFI on Mudbuddy
They're not all ironed out, but there are fixes for most of them. Good luck. Btw, your faith in briggs is commendable

Re: 37 HP EFI on Mudbuddy
No issues with mine but the wiring harness is the biggest issues with them as far as I know. They idle smoother and start a little better in the cold.

Re: 37 HP EFI on Mudbuddy
Haha thanks Russ! I believe in Vanguard much more than I do the Briggs line, even though they're both owned by Briggs. Hopefully this 37 holds up well for me. I am curious about how much more power it'll have than my stock 35 did and what kind of RPM's are folks getting.

Big block vanguards have to be one of the most flawed blocks they've put on the market.

Re: 37 HP EFI on Mudbuddy
Thanks SaltyHunter, before I was only getting 4k, so hopefully I'll get a little more speed. We will see when I run it on Sunday. Also, I know Briggs and Vanguard are the same, but there has to be some sort of difference as to seeing that Vanguard is technically Briggs' commercial version.

Also, the Vanguard is built in Japan, which I don't mind at all.

Re: 37 HP EFI on Mudbuddy
I got mine on a 1648 war eagle and I'm get 30 all day unloaded so you should see around there with the 37. Probably more since yours is a slick bottom boat.

Yeah, with my stock 35 I was getting 31 dry. I'm hoping to get around 33 dry.

Re: 37 HP EFI on Mudbuddy
Ok I have a 37 and courious why you are only hitting 4300-4400 rpm. I have to run mine half throttle to keep it under 4300-4400 rpm while trimmed in the sweet spot.

Re: 37 HP EFI on Mudbuddy
That's what the man says. 4300-4400 should be full throttle. A stock 37 doesn't spin 5k. Might want to check your prop, rooster.

Re: 37 HP EFI on Mudbuddy
If I trim it down a lot where I have zero rooster tail and it's harder to steer I can keep it under 4400 at WOT. If I trim it up to the angle I like to run I can't keep it under 4300-4400 unless I'm at half throttle and it's hard to keep it under the 4100-4200 I want to keep it at. I honestly don't know how high it would go if I kept it hammered down. I need to meet up with some guys on here and let them drive it to see what they think. Its my first surface drive so I thought it was normal but the more I read in here I am beginning to think its not normal.

Re: 37 HP EFI on Mudbuddy
They wear really well, but that's a lot of prop for a 37 and it's not a speed prop.

Re: 37 HP EFI on Mudbuddy
I was running 30-31 with stock 35 and put 37 on. I haven't ran WOT yet so cant tell you full speed yet. Why do people on here insist on trying to call people liars and be complete asses. BTW this motor is on a 1648.

Re: 37 HP EFI on Mudbuddy
Agreed Russ. When I say I get 30 with my stock 37 just to clarify, that's meaning hardly any weight in the boat. 4 gallon of gas, one battery, no gun boxes, no foam, and me being 150lbs. I'm anywhere from 29.5-30.8 mph. So that why I just say 30, much easier than explaining all that. Lol

I could eat 6 Big Macs, 6 large fries, and a two liter of coke and still be the same size. Gotta love a high metabolism!

Finally got to run my boat while teal hunting full throttle. I got 30 mph with me and another guy and light hunting load. I just thought I would follow up and let everyone know!
