 Re: Diesel mud motor?
Been there, done that.
HP to weight doesn't work, and they shake like a jumping jack.

 Re: Diesel mud motor?
They do but there is some 10 HP that are under 60 lbs and if you go big HP to wt only gets better. I am curious as to wether they would get a good reception if one was produced that was competitive with the gas ones?

Was it really necessary to start three different threads about this?

a product is only as good as the demand.[/quote] Theres no demand for a diesel mud motor, so the product ain't worth shit

 Re: Diesel mud motor?
There's no demand for a diesel mudmotor, until there is one and it doesn't weigh a ton to produce good power. If it does the job better than what's there, isn't cost prohibitive, they might sell. Asking here with zero specifics other than something 10hp and some vague references to hp to weight gets better isn't going to garner positive comments. They're heavy for the power they provide. They have their application, but weight is a concern with mudmotors, so it's very unlikely to ever find a home in this realm.
We can get 50+ hp out of a 140lb powerhead with some semblance of reliability. Match that, and you have something simply due to reliability advantages of a diesel. Good luck

 Re: Diesel mud motor?
I have a diesel engine, 3 cyl water cooled 270 lb that produces 61 HP and 174 ft lb tq, and a 60 lb 10 HP that I am thinking about trying to fit to drives. I was trying to see if people would be interested so i have an idea about the markets reception to it. Although I think it's cool, and could work it needs to be something that would sell eventually, and there's no better place to look for opinions on the subject than here I think.

 Re: Diesel mud motor?
At 3400 rpm. The weight isn't too far off of a twin package and it produces substantially more tq. It also burns 1.7 gph and has a service life of 8000 hrs.

 Re: Diesel mud motor?
Just think with a diesel, you could "nitro" with propane, that would kick up the rpms and torque!! KICK THE TIRES AND THE FIRES!!!!!

 Re: Diesel mud motor?
Been there, done that, threw away the t-shirt. It will work if the HP to weight ratio is better than the 3-cyl Kubota I used. Check out my blog. https://godevilalaska.wordpress.com/cat ... ace-drive/
