 La. Wildlife & Fisheries
Got stopped for the first time in at least ten years Sunday. These guys could not have been nicer. Mostly asked if I was having any poacher problems. Glanced at my six teal and then ended up just shooting the bull for a few minutes.
They asked me if there was anything they could do for me and I told them "yea, go write some tickets on the guys running "swamp lights" on the canal blinding me in the morning". They told me they wrote ten tickets in Westwego Saturday for just that. Said most guys think just because the builder put them on that they are legal.

Man it seems like it's a roll of the dice on the attitudes of wardens.
One day I will get stopped just so they can look at my boat and shoot the bull with me.
The next time it will be a fella that knows nothing but his job. Doesn't want to talk to you and want to do his job and leave.
I understand that it's what they get paid to do but sometimes it wouldn't hurt to be friendly. Especially a LEO.

Those guys are out there doing their jobs, and we must all respect that. Every one that I've come in contact with has been polite and professional....only thing is I wish there were a few more out there keeping some of the knuckleheads in check!

 Re: La. Wildlife & Fisheries
Only game warden ive ever had a problem with that had no personality and was all business is a Federal GW. He pulled us over and asked for our licenses, i pulled my wallet out and said "man its to hot out here to be shooting duck huh?" And he looked at me and said "son i need your license before I assume you don't have one".... tgen he wrote a ticket for not being able to read my TX # because boat was dirty. He was a lovely fellow. Every other local or county GW ive ran into are tge most friendly they could be.

 Re: La. Wildlife & Fisheries
I have never had a problem with a LA Wildlife Agent and have been checked many times on the water and in the woods for decades.
First thing I always do no matter their timing on how I feel is I "yes Sir" and "No sir" them to death. I also address them as "Officer" because that is what they are.
If you dish out shit, you will get shit back.
One agent gave me a little grief once when the rules changed for kill switches and such a few years ago. Said I wasn't wearing my kill switch and I really was. No doubt about it. Since He wasn't writing anything I let it go. He also said my boat numbers didn't have enough contrast in them and that he would darken them if he were me. Said it was good enough for him but had seen other wardens write for less than that.
Be legal and you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Be a jerk and they will find something to write if they dig hard enough.

 Re: La. Wildlife & Fisheries
I had them run up on me while fishing the birds and run all the trout off. Fishing the beach in grand isle made me get out the water to check my license while I had 2 on a double rig. Then they pulled every fish out the ice chest to measure them. But they were nice and didn't dig around.

 Re: La. Wildlife & Fisheries
GW around here are generally pretty good guys.
I got a completely bogus ticket for not having a plug in my shotgun opening weekend of teal but that's another story. Complete crap ticket, and the guy was a total dick about it.... And yes, the gun was plugged.

 Re: La. Wildlife & Fisheries
I have never had a bad experience with Texas or LA wardens in my 35 years. But at the same time I'm always legal, and courteous to them as they do their job.
