Why so quiet about the 25 Briggs Big Block GTR?
Everyone kinda has me worried here. I haven't seen but one thread about it since Gator Tail put it out last year. Anyone been running one? I just sold my 1646 GTR with a 25hp Subaru GTR and my 1748 with the 25 Big Block will be finished in March. Kinda wanted to see what people were seeing out of them. Hopefully I didn't put it on too big of a boat.

The benefit of going with that motor, is you can essentially make it perform with the 35/36/37, as all the mods available for those will work on the 25. The downside is stock, it's going to be a big heavy turd. The subaru or even the kohler probably perform better stock because of the weight/power ratio

Re: Why so quiet about the 25 Briggs Big Block GTR?
Yeah I looked at the power curve and torque curve of the Subaru compared to the Briggs and the Briggs has more low end torque. I've heard one person talk about their new 25 GTR big block and they said they loved it. But, that's about the only thing I heard. I don't think it will be that much harder for that motor to push a boat one foot longer and two inches wider. Not much more aluminum and not much more drag surface (different thread I guess for that subject). I was just curious of anyone out there that has one and has been running it

Re: Why so quiet about the 25 Briggs Big Block GTR?
They likely switched to briggs since Subaru intends to quit making the 25, and the kohler doesn't have the growth room (power-wise) that the Briggs does. It also simplifies their supply train and warranty claim paperwork. Ill say this, in spite of my issues with briggs, they are the only air cooled engine company giving us (the mm world) a variety of options intentionally.

Re: Why so quiet about the 25 Briggs Big Block GTR?
I actually took the Briggs motors power and torque curve and graphed it against the Subaru curve. Subaru doesn't put out their torque curve but I did the calculations and got those numbers. Briggs low end toque blows the Subaru away, but drops off after 3700 rpm. Then the Subaru wins in both torque and HP produced after 3700 rpm.
You can bet when I get mine in March I'll be sure to post how it is compared to the Subaru after having it for those 3 years.

The new 25hp GTR Briggs "Big Block" is a carbed motor. The funny thing is, when you go to the gator tail website, they don't even offer the Subaru 25 anymore.

Re: Why so quiet about the 25 Briggs Big Block GTR?
Subaru is getting out of the small engine market. It's no secret, it's been posted here in the recent past.
I'd be willing to bet that, and the fact GT has to make fewer changes (if any?) to bolt it on to what they already make would be a huge plus from a manufacturing standpoint. I'm sure it has nothing or close to nothing to do with ease of modification, that's just a bennie....

Re: Why so quiet about the 25 Briggs Big Block GTR?
The 25 is nothing more than a short stroke big blocks with a carb that limits flow of air and fuel into the engine. Basically the old 31 with a smaller carb.

Re: Why so quiet about the 25 Briggs Big Block GTR?
So in yalls opinion which would you choose ? The Subaru that's not going to be around any longer or the Briggs . I'm asking because I have plenty of chances to get a used Subaru or should I wait and just get the new Briggs big block . The Subaru worries me a little bit that they are not going to be supported really . My buddy actually called gatortail today and someone there told him that Subaru wasn't making the motor anymore .

Re: Why so quiet about the 25 Briggs Big Block GTR?
The briggs is not new, and nobody really cares what you buy. Buy what you want. Briggs is junk, but there's lots of available options for modding them. If you plan to mod, you'll have a lot more parts and information available for the briggs. If not, I'd go with just about anything else.

Re: Why so quiet about the 25 Briggs Big Block GTR?
Now performance wise, I have no clue. That's why I started the thread. It is going to take someone who has had/been in both the Subaru and Briggs GTR. Which I wont experience first hand till mine is done in March.
