 Re: HOSS Drive
I saw it this Thursday and Friday while doing set up at the show. Not totally sure of the price but it looks like between 12K and 13K plus the controls for the console. Also this motor is around 450lbs. So way more heavy. This is geared for power not for speed but was told that could be changed.
I see this for big boats where someone wanted duals. Thing is big. I wonder if the smallest boat you would put this on would be an 1854. I bet the Engine itself is probably less finicky than a Briggs. Probably more reliable. But who knows on what the lower unit will take with that power--I am sure it will be ok. I think the Boss/Hoss platform is probably better suited for this big engine and console set up in connection with how the FNR was engineered along with the over all engine.
Even if I could afford that plus boat, I would not need it. What I am glad of though is that someone is pushing in all these different ways. We will be the winners in all this. I see this putting a dent to the other companies with guys that wanted duals or still needs duals.
Ok, so who agrees with me that a lot of people see this and they have speed in their brains, when this was mostly about power?
On the Mudmotor front , I still wonder if a Prodrive with FPR and instant reverse for around the dock would be a good thing for them.

 Re: HOSS Drive
To me speed isnt the issue. If this thing can carry a big ass load on a larger boat without having to go duals....you'd really have something.

 Re: HOSS Drive
Have to assume that gm powerhead is more reliable than a piece of shit briggs too, which means it should be way more reliable than two of em.

 Re: HOSS Drive
I saw a video of it on a 2168 running like 35 mph with 3 people, not bad. The thing is though is some of these motors with mod work are making alot of power and can get a big boat up and moving...and still use a tiller. I got a text from another member here yesterday who was testing some props on his big ol barge with a single motor and the speed he was getting would surprise most people.

 Re: HOSS Drive
Every little but of weight counts...I can still move my 1854 CC by hand when stuck (thanks to gator glide, but still), too much more weight and I'd be SOL. Think about those times when you are exploring new spots and accidentally beach it... I guess that's what winches are for

 Re: HOSS Drive
My modded carbed 35, on an 1860 boat, with a worked (but worn) 3 blade prop, hit 31.6 with 5 people and a loaded yeti 65 the other night. That was in knee deep water. Ran 29.5 in deep water. Sounds like the HOSS gets that performance and reliability of a stock motor.... only missing a Tiller steering option.

 Re: HOSS Drive
Tiller steer with power steering like conventional outboards have would be something ... until your wader strap gets tangled in that belt

 Re: HOSS Drive
I did not ask, but the balancing of the weight they had to do for this probably not too good for a tiller,

Those 60 pound Asian dudes can manhandle those gigantic car motor powered longtails. I would hope I could drive a 3 cylinder tiller surface drive.

 Re: HOSS Drive
I understand from a buddy of mine, that spends months at a time on business in Malaysia, the street food is great. He never asks what's in it or he might starve to death over there. He just tells himself if is Kobe beef, farm raised chicken, and freshly caught fish.

I'd consider getting a whole new rig for a MM making 80 hp.
