 Re: HOSS Drive
And honestly I'll pay that because if I break it all down I've got almost that tied up in my motor. 8800 for a brand new prodrive 3500 in mods just to make it push a load worth a damn. And if you wanna add prop experimenting easily another 900-1k. He'll I'm right there at it
Not to mention I was just about to pull the trigger on dual 37s which if I did all the rigging myself was gonna cost after taxes right at 18k. This motor is giving me another option for sure . . . Dammit now I gotta think some more lol

I hope my below average boat will last a long time. If I spend that much I'm buying something 24+ plus

My boat has become more of a family rig which is why I traded in my 1648 and ordered a new 1848. Wife and daughter love to ride and look at alligators

 Re: HOSS Drive
I think this is where the Hoss will be awesome..assuming its not junk.....theres alot of people who NEED a big boat. I have an 1854 and for where I'm at thats the smallest rig I would go with. A large percent of hunting boats we see are AAD plate boats which are generally 20 to 24ft and 6 to 7 ft wide. They work great for running the river but obviously a mud motor is out of the question. Being able to keep running a big ass boat but still get in the shallow shit is a big selling point. I hope this is able to make big boats an option without duals.

 Re: HOSS Drive
I'd love this on a 20x54 or 20x60. Console rigged exactly like mine. Able to fish, bowfish and hunt. While still being able to go booze cruise or take the whole family on a scenic ride. This could be the alternate to duals. If you compare it to that the Hoss seems far more reasonable.

 Re: HOSS Drive
I'm surprised there's not a more significant engine cover. Lots of open areas with moving parts or sensitive areas. If you are in some thick stuff with branches and what not that could get a little dicey.
They might as well put a fiberglass cover like an outboard.

Can't wait till people start adding exhaust, CAI and turbos to this thing!
Wonder how it'll handle salt water conditions?

 Re: HOSS Drive
Main thing I'd have a concern about are those reseviors up top. Everything on the sides looks like it can probably take a limb dragging it or whatever. I'd bust that coolant tank the first time I went in the woods with it. It's kind of in a bad spot. Putting it on the back probably wouldn't help much either. People hit stuff in reverse as well. Those tanks should be aluminum either way so if they get smacked, they'll bend or dent and you make it home instead of dumping antifreeze into the river when you whack that plastic.

 Re: HOSS Drive
I like it. It's spendy and we haven't seen them in the "real world" much. But I like the direction it's going personally. You're buying boat propulsion. Horsepower. You want twice the horsepower? Give us twice the money... simple concept. There will be revisions I'm sure if they want it to succeed in the environment these things are supposed to be operated in but that's part of it too.

I think once someone comes with a real FPR set up with the Hoss concept it will be good on big boat.

 Re: HOSS Drive
I got a feeling once that grabs a stump or the mud with 75 hp will be the last time you want to be holding a tiller.
I think the only way they can keep boss going is to market to a bigger hp motor. Way too many options with the 35 hp lawn mower. The belt drives are definitely the lightest. That drive is heavy and needs some hp to give them an edge on the competition.

 Re: HOSS Drive
I've driven 90 and 115hp outboards with unassisted tillers... it's not as bad as you probably think. I'm not a slightly built fella but it's not bad. A mud motor is inherently more of a workout but I'd still rather have a tiller for my uses.

 Re: HOSS Drive
Big difference in an outboard tiller vs mm. The mudmotor will have far better leverage (outdrive) that you will be fighting. Also a mm has no give factor in the drive train. An outboard will shear the pin. An outboard prop is spinning right at the transom vs a mm spinning 2-3' behind.

 Re: HOSS Drive
The thing I'm most curious about is the closed loop cooling system. I looked at this pretty extensively before making the Kawasaki swap, because I had an old Merc 90 lying around and was gonna try and mate up the 90 power head to the PD lower. But for all extensive purposes, I couldn't find a closed loop system that didn't add a ton of weight to the engine. If the closed loop they have holds up to some "hard miles" and stupid hot summers like here in Louisiana, then I'm back on board for a project.
