Post Air Leak at Gasket for BPS Crossover
Noticed yesterday that if I put my hand where the muffler bolts to motor, there was a constant stream of air coming from the gasket. Air flow increases with throttle, obviously. Have had this muffler on here for about 6-7 years with no issues. Is there a quick fix or do I need to install a new gasket?

Motor runs fine. How much does this affect performance?

Could try and tighten the bolts up but with my luck I would break a bolt head off.

Thanks,

You need to replace the gasket.

Thanks CB.

How much does this affect performance? Imagine it affects compression??????

Won't affect compression. Probably won't cause immediate performance problems. You don't want the cool air getting sucked back up in the engine.

Get yourself some soft copper that is slightly thicker than the stock gasket and make a pair of gaskets using a stock gasket for a template. It helps compensate for inconsistencies in head and exhaust flanges once tightened down.

Thanks 50. Saw a thread on here to use this. Seem like thicker than the BPS ones. Any thoughts?

Get the cb gaskets they are the best and at least 5 times as thick as stock and twice as thick as bps gaskets. I've reused them and still no leaks. You get 4 per package because they are for a vw engine. Best gaskets i've found.

Double check that it's not just the air from the fan that's blowing through there. I thought the same thing at first back when I built my motor tried different gaskets and come to find out it was air from the fan blowing through the shields and out right there where the muffler bolts up
