Installing a pulse fuel pump on a 7hp Kohler Pro
Does any one have a better solution than installing it in the intake tube between the head and carb.
Thanks Darryle

Only problem I see with that is I would probably have to drill and tap the case.
I saw where on some of the golf cart forums they bought new intake tubes and drilled them, but some reported hit or miss success. I have seen where those that tapped the case voided their warranty and was trying to avoid that scenario.

Just a thought, why not use the valve cover to tap and use?

Re: Installing a pulse fuel pump on a 7hp Kohler Pro
I considered that, but was afraid that the vent hose would prevent it from getting enough pulse.
How much of a pulse/vacuum does these little pumps need to function properly?

Not sure, maybe use vent hose with "y" connector and adjust the amount of pulse to vent with a tie wrap???

Re: Installing a pulse fuel pump on a 7hp Kohler Pro
Crankcase pulse pumps and Vacuum pulse pumps are two different creatures. Valve cover should work for CC style but vacuum style will need a port down stream of the carb. You thought about a low pressure Facet electric pump?

Facet upgraded their cube. It's now called "posi flow". It's a nice solid state fuel pump. Can be wired up to your key switch.

Re: Installing a pulse fuel pump on a 7hp Kohler Pro
This is the one I ordered: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WPSFAFU/re ... qzbYY7ASRC"About this item Features Vacuum style fuel pump, fits 1/4-inch fuel line Replace manufacturer part number: Kohler 24 393 04-S,24 393 16-S; John Deree: LG808656 M138498 M145667 Honda 16700-Z0J-003; Briggs & Stratton 808656 491922; Kawasaki 49040-7001" I ordered another intake tube that goes between the carb and the head, it hasn't arrived yet. I talked to my small engine guy and he didn't think I would be able to get a strong enough pulse from the crankcase to properly run a pulse pump and said I should try a vacuum pump. 1244 Atchafalaya Outdoor Designs W/ 12hp Copperhead

Re: Installing a pulse fuel pump on a 7hp Kohler Pro
There are a few good ways to do this. 1. Off the intake like you said. This is the cleanest and least likely to run into issues with oil leaking out your pump breather. It also has the weakest pulse signal. Not great if your tank needs serious lift. 2. Run it off the valve cover like others have said. It works pretty well, but sealing the hole you make in that thin sheet metal can be a pain. Also, that valve cover is a hollow two layer deal. This makes it very difficult to work with. 3. If you aren't using a governor (highly modified CH270) you can tap the governor shaft hole for a fitting and use that. The trick is insuring your pulse line is vertical to keep oil from being ingested by the pump and leaking out the vent. This is a strong signal, and I have seen it do great work up to 9000RPM on the CH270. 4. My personal favorite is running off of the small boss cast into the top of the block cover (block cover, PTO cover, closure plate... whatever your term for it). This location, when drilled and tapped, has good material thickness all the way through, is not in the direct path of a spinning gear that throws oil everywhere, and is the easiest to use with a short run to a vertically mounted pulse pump (to improve oil draining). I have also seen this method used successfully up to 9000RPM with a well mounted pump. Also, you can remove the closure plate and keep the aluminum shavings off your internals, so I prefer it to option 3 for that reason as well.

Re: Installing a pulse fuel pump on a 7hp Kohler Pro
It will be coming from the front, I may have to consider an electric pump.

I say the electric pump for u is the best option. Just not sure about the float needle and seat, cause u going from gravity flow to fuel pump.

I talked to Copperhead and they said that electric was the only option.

Re: Installing a pulse fuel pump on a 7hp Kohler Pro
I am running a pulse pump (off of intake) my tank is in the center console. The only problem I have had is after about 1 day you need to pump the primer bulb(inline at the tank) a few times to make sure the fuel line is full all the way to the fuel pump.

Re: Installing a pulse fuel pump on a 7hp Kohler Pro
The Kawasaki 37's that we are all running used a pulse pump. Mine worked great and actually was able to run the stock needle seat with it in the mikuni. But over long trips, it would eventually run out and not keep up. So I converted to the briggs pump and drilled and tapped the carb adapter to pull vacuum and just capped the port on the block that drove the pulse pump.
