Loss of HP - MB 4400 HDR BD
Any help would be appreciated - Located in Houston Texas - Spent 3 days during Harvey pulling people from their homes and had to trailer boat due to motor issues and loss of prop.
First of all, anyone know of any good mechanics here in Houston for regular maintenance and/or tuning? With work and everyday issues i never have any time for working on the boat/motor.
Not sure exactly what the issues are but lost HP recently. Had to replace prop after running it to a nub on houston streets but did not change pitch or size. running the 3/4 hex Hammer. Main issues are idle seems rough and exceleration almost non existent and if i mash on the throttle the motor bogs. Currently running the Mikuni 42mm carb, aftermarket intake and exhaust on a Mud Buddy 4400 HDR Black Death. Is it possible the carb needs to be cleaned and tuned? the boat/motor are only a year old or so. Put a hell of a lot of hours on it in the first season with zero issues, currently 110 hours or so.
Any insight or advice would go a long way. Thanks!

Water in the gas? possible.... but i have a water separator and use stabilizer.... wouldnt that cause the water to float on top of the fuel and not get in the lines as long as the tank wasnt on empty? or am i speaking nonsense now?

Water is heavier than gas. It gets sucked up first

HA! i knew water was heavier.... not sure what i was thinking there....
I have to be honest Russ, i have had this beast taken care of by the dealer since i picked it up. after 10 hrs i had them check the valves and adjust as needed. that was part of the recommended break in process isnt it? Not sure how to go about doing so though. I have finally decided its time to do all the maintenance myself but am a bit intimidated by the idea of opening it up and messing with the cam.
Guess its just time to nut up.

you aren't messing with the cam. you're removing the 2 valve covers. Google it to get an idea
