Freedom outboards
Anyone have any info on these motors freedom outboards, my father in law is interested in looking at one. From the research has has done and I have seen it’s only been talked about a couple times in here. Anyone have one? How do they preform? Longevity, durability, problems? The issue he is having is he has a 1754 grizzle tracker and wants to have a mud motor on it but doesn’t want to throw a SD on it if it’s not going to perform, he also uses the boat for fishing in the spring trolling and such so it’s either look into the freedom outboards or sell the rig and buy a boat a SD, I run a gt 1544 with a 35 hdr so we know how that performs. any info will be appreciated

Re: Freedom outboards
No one here's got one. And no one here wants to spend that kind of coin to be a test dummy.

Re: Freedom outboards
Yep it seems to me if you want a few southern boys to buy your "mud motor" then you need to show up at one of the events dem boys are at with a beer in hand and show'em what you got!
Like he said nobody wants to be the $14,000 test dummy!

Re: Freedom outboards
they were gonna come to caddo, but didn't respond when I checked with them a couple weeks out, so I dunno what happened. the boss was doing some show or something in Arkansas that weekend, but he was going to send someone else. they missed a chance. maybe next year.

Re: Freedom outboards
They had one at the white river nwr flotilla and it apparently kept over heating. First one i’ve seen in person.

Re: Freedom outboards
Well I think that’s how my father in law feels doesn’t want to throw the coin out to be a test dummy. Which I completely understand, that’s all he was looking for was some sort of real life experiences with it like the over heating inncodent.

Re: Freedom outboards
overheating would have been my 1st guess with issues! a water cooled engine without a water intake??? sounds like a problem from the start.
would be legit if they got them going right. seems to be a chit ton of HP/weight ratio.

Re: Freedom outboards
This one had a radiator mounted in the center of the floor in the boat. It only ran about 30 from what I heard and it is an absolute MONSTER in size compared to anything I've ever seen.

Re: Freedom outboards
We were talking and we thought it was funny that there are no photos of the entire engine and cooling system anywhere just some YouTube videos that show the motor nothing about the cooling system.

Re: Freedom outboards
I am glad to see a builder brave or innovative enough to get away from lawn mower motors. It is bound to be a rough start. I certainly hope they stay with it!
If they get to 90hp, I'll want to talk to them.

Re: Freedom outboards
The cooling lines run right above the prop - under the cavitation plate.

Re: Freedom outboards
So if it's water cooled, you shouldn't be running it in the mud. Aka it's not a mud motor

Re: Freedom outboards
Same as the Boss 75, has an enclosed cooling system, but using a "heat exchanger" on lower.

Doesn't the motor itself sell for around $10,000?

Re: Freedom outboards
I talked to the salesman at freeway sports near flint MI. They are a dealer of the freedom outboards. He is positive on them. He has sold some for Saginaw bay use and said they were holding up well. He is rigging one on a personal boat and said cooling is not an issue. Engine is a tohatsu with a special water pump. I am ordering one for my gatortrax 1870 with hunt deck to replace my mudbuddy sport v 5500. The mud buddy is fine on my boat but i want a bit more horsepower as i am using it on the great lakes.

Re: Freedom outboards
Received my freedom 50 this past week. Ran six gallons through it this past three days. Ran heavy lily pads and bull rush weeds with no problems. Pushed my big 1875 gator trax 18mph at 4000 rpm. Still breacking it in should be pretty fast up at 5000. Runs high on surface prop held tight in big following sea. No cavitation. Motor temp 112degrees at 4K 91 at 3k. Radiator is very small and fits easy in front of the motor on hunt deck. This weekend is our duck opener will have three big guys in boat and I plan to run up to 5000 rpm. Motor is very quiet with through hub exhaust. I have hydraulic steering so no feedback.

Re: Freedom outboards
Yeah I agree, that seems slow. With the new rapid prop, I'm Holding 34 with two people, a 110'lb lab, and a full hunt load in my 18x48 crawfish skiff with a 40 GTR with voodoo, kandn air filter, cut skeg, and worked prop, so basically stock. Hopefully after 5k, that thing opens up

I hit 33mph gatortrax 2060 with level 2 mods and a ronhill 12.5x12 tulip prop at 4400rpms. 18mph at 4k is garbage even for the break-in.

Re: Freedom outboards
I read a ad in the sportsman that there is a freedom outboards dealer going to be around laffayette. it's a guy I know, but hadn't talked to in a while. from the add it shows a couple motors mounted on boats, but I don't know if they are really into production yet.
look how long to took for ALL the mm company's to get their stuff out. it happens a lot longer than all of us want. don't worry though, if it's the cat's azz then the pom-pom parade will start trashing it immediately! lol
I hope it's worth a flip, it will get the other guys off their butts to outdo it.
I have no opinion on it and hope it works out for them. i dunno if it runs a outboard prop, but if it does it will be easy to reprop for speed or power. i don'y know, just a guess at this point.
