Chatahoochee Striper Fishing
Last week I ran back home to the Fort Benning area. I had big hopes for fishing the Chattahoochee. I am mostly into bass fishing but will also fish crappie and catfish.
day one we got rained out. Tried to fish it anyway, but it was a driving rain. day two saw hurricane force winds on the water. On my last day I decided to try my hand at striper fishing. I have never really pursued the striper, but the 14 year old I fish with seemed pretty confident that we could get on them on the main channel close to down town Columbus.
He was right. We drifted the banks throwing medium depth crank baits. We caught 18 fish and put over 50 pounds in the boat. My partner at 14 picked up the most and the first, I got the biggest at 8 pounds. He makes a heck of a guide to be only 14.
Dog gone striper are a hard pulling fish. Even the three pounders will take the kinks out of your line. The bigger ones like to run deep and try to stay there.
I wish I could go back down and get after them again. When the flooding stops here in NW Arkansas I will try going after them on the White River.

We got a combination of hybrid, striped, and white bass.
To be honest, I can't always tell the difference.

Re: Chatahoochee Striper Fishing
after looking, I think we got hybrid and white bass. Don't believe any of our are stripers.

Re: Chatahoochee Striper Fishing
Perhaps the little red eyed bass we catch in the current here in Arkansas are just spots.
The shoal bass always looked a bit bronze in color to me. They are a hard pulling fish. They fight like a small mouth.

Have you tried running all the way up into downtown Columbus just below the last rapid (cutbaot is the rapids name) the banks are lined with people fishing and the fish stack up right there. I've caught some monsters out of there on white swim baits. You can catch good white & largemouth bass there as well
