Spoon Bill Catfish
My Uncle J boat was out of commission for a week and a half while I painted the bottom with Gator Glide.
Got out today and was throwing a crank bait on the White River for hybrids. Saw what looked to be a medium size beluga whale on the depth finder. I threw the crank bait over it thinking it might be a giant striper.
Turns out it was a 74 pound spoon bill catfish. It took an hour forty nine for me to land him. He put a medium action bass rod and Browning Lew's reel with 12 pound test through the wringer.
I threw him back. Wish I would have gave him to the migrant workers fishing the bank by the boat landing. Sure it would have fed a good number of folks.

Nice catch. I'm sure that was a fun fight!

Re: Spoon Bill Catfish
Spoke to state game warden today. He said there is a black market for spoon bill eggs.
Never would have guessed that.

That'll get your heart rate up!
I'm liking the paint job on your boat P. I've been mulling over doing a camo job on mine, but don't feel like messing with it. This is giving me second thoughts.

They are good eating. No bones just cartilage. Defiantly a weird fish.

Re: Spoon Bill Catfish
A buddy and I went out on Saturday morning... We both shot our paddlefish within an hour. They were cleaned and we were home by 8:30... It was a good morning.
