 Re: gps/depth finder recommendations??
I'm using a portable unit from Cabelas, it's a Eagle unit with a suction cup transducer powered by a small 12v batt all comtained in a nice carry case!

Suction cup or something removable is where its at. I do too much playing and would rip something off plus I don't want anything permanently mounted with wires etc

Yea, it holds well, I just place on the back, just above the bottom of the hull!

 Re: gps/depth finder recommendations??
Go with the Thru haul from Lowrance they make the best Gps and depth/fish finders on the market imo. They also have great customer service and will help you with what you need. You dont really need the color and the huge screen IMO so you should be able to get a whole unit for around $500.00 depending on options you want. The M686 with Gps and color runs about 450. I would have to double check to see if you can get that with a thru haul transducer. Its a sweet unit for the price and it is in color

 Re: gps/depth finder recommendations??
I actually have two GPS,s on my boat and they both have the bolt on transducers on them and I have not had a problem with them getting ripped off. I did have one of them that got pushed up a little. All i did was pushed it back down. Yes i do have the mapping card in it. I have the platinum card. I also have the Navico Expansion port installed and it gives me a detailed layout of what is on the bottom. This was another 600.00$

 Re: gps/depth finder recommendations??
like these guys are telling you. Stick with anything from Lowrance/Eagle on a gps/sonar unit. I would highly recommend you don't do a shoot thru hull transducer on an AL hull. The tranducers that come with these units are optimized to give you the best signal thru fiberglass. meaning the frequences in the tranducers give you the best resolution/feedback being shot thru glass and not AL. That is unless they have since come out with a transducer specifically for an AL boat. I'm not saying the tranducer won't read. I'm just saying the detail you get with the unit thru a glass boat won't be the same. I talked a length with an electrical engineer at Lowrance about this. I won't bore you with the details.

Just to let you know, Academy has the EAGLE FISHELITE 642C IGPS for $349. It's a discontinued model and hard to find in the stores, but an unbeatable price. Color GPS/Fishfinder combo with a 5" screen.
