Boat size 1852 vs 1754
Almost to end of designing my first surface drive boat. Only stuck on a few things but the main one is this. I hunt alone occasionally but really enjoy taking people hunting(2-3) and fishing. This will be a duck boat I fish and bow fish out of (wife said boat is a go if I get a platform built so she can bowfish at night, lol) however I want stability and carry a deceit load but don’t want to feel like I’m duck hunting in a barge. I’m doing 68 beam so I can still squeeze through some timber but don’t hunt Arkansas style flooded timber hardly at all.. I’ve read through a ton of info on 1848 and 17-1854 and a few variations, but not much on 1852 vs 1754 in load carry and maneuverability. I’ll more than likely pair it with a gatortail 40xd with delta barracuda 5 kit so power is not an issue.. Any info or help is appreciated!

Go with the 18. More boat the better. It will carry a load better, give you more room, and you won't regret ir

Re: Boat size 1852 vs 1754
So you think go with the extra foot for best overall vs the extra 2 inches in width? Just ain’t sure how 18 handles the thick trees vs the width considering the beam will be the same..

Yeah I think that extra foot will help bro. It will help Keep the bow down too because of the front weight and help it get on step Better and Keep it from bouncing

1854 is pretty much the perfect all around sized boat.

Yea I figure seeing everyone saying 18 is a sweet spot, but seeing a lot of 1848 and 50’s up to the 1860... I’m coming from an outboard setup of 1652. Really like the width but when I loaded it you could definitely tell it plowed. Also see your tag of boat builder. I use to live in Tyler Texas, but recently moved to west Missouri which the hunting is incredible. But lived right down the road from wc custom which is who will probably be building the boat. What was your thought of them?
Wchauvin: Thanks man! Kinda figured that but I don’t have anyone close to me that has any setup I can ride in.

If you in south Louisiana before you buy your boat, I'll be happy to take you in a ride in my 1848. I also have a boat builder out of breaux bridge who could build anything you want for cheaper and better than anyone I know. If you want his contact info, let me know bud

Go with that 18’ boat, 52” or 54” shouldn’t make a noticeable difference.

Re: Boat size 1852 vs 1754
Thanks fellows really appreciate the info. I’ll definitely do the 18, now just to decide whether the 52 or 54. Only difference is I’d have 2 inches of more surface on water with 54 vs 2 more inches of slant for sides flare in the 52.. not sure which is more important for getting on step better and stability..

Re: Boat size 1852 vs 1754
Go Bigger....bigger!!! My buddy has an 17.5/52 prodigy. I have 2 boats, 15/40 with a 23 long tail and a new WC 20/54 with the 40 efi. The 20/54 is a duck boat first and a fishing boat second. I cannot reason going to 18 footers now that I have the big boy. I can hide the boat just fine when hunting which really was my biggest concern as far as a hunting boat. ALL ELSE there is no comparison....unless you just don't have the room to park a 20 footer

Crap! I gotta get off this forum. It's costing me $$. I was gonna go with another 18 for my next boat but now you guys got me looking at a 20.

Re: Boat size 1852 vs 1754
I like my 1754 Gtrax with hunt deck. They don't include the 20" huntdeck in their measurements or rounded chine, so its actually 18'8" x ~ 56". Get's on plane easy with 3 guys, lab, full hunting load with a pure stock GTR35. Also like the extra width for hunting as you can stretch your legs while sitting in swivel chars and it's a rock solid shooting platform. I run zero timber.

Re: Boat size 1852 vs 1754
I’m close to ordering a 1860.
Now I’m wondering if I should be thinking 2060.
If a 2056 works... how about a 2060?

Re: Boat size 1852 vs 1754
I like my 1860 but my next one will be an 1854. I can currently haul ANYTHING I’ve tried loading but it’s slow. This is my do all boat and the 60” is definitely nice with the family during the warmer months for added stability but I’m willing to trade little more wobble for MPH.
