Louisiana Duck Season
Plain and simple, if you don’t kill ducks early this season in Louisiana, give it up. Ducks seem to be coming in nightly and we have our first decent cold front coming this weekend. This morning, in Mississippi, I watched thousands of ducks and geese fly over headed south while sitting in my deer stand. They flew a few minutes before day light right over my head. On my way back home to Louisiana, I saw several ponds off the side of the road filled with big ducks and coots. We might have ourselves a good season like we had two years ago.

Re: Louisiana Duck Season
Too many "duck killers" run around every day til dark the 3 days before the season "scouting". Makes them real scarce opening morning. The concept of not disturbing them until you begin shooting escapes some people.

People are greedy and selfish and only worry about themselves. Real sportsman are hard to find these days as are quality human beings

Re: Louisiana Duck Season
They do have people riding around. I do feel that many duck hunters pick a spot close to the house and they expect the ducks to show up to that one spot and one blind. If they don’t, it sucks. Successful hunters work hard, find the ducks and go get them. Sometimes that means driving a bit of taking a longer boat ride.

Re: Louisiana Duck Season
I dont mind scouting, but riding around a shallow lake or flooded timber area because you can with aftermarket mufflers and music blaring in surface drives and saying "ooo, theres some ducks flying up there, let's go ride over there and see if theres some in those bushes or trees, too" isnt scouting. That's not good for hunters nor the wildlife.

Re: Louisiana Duck Season
I have about 400 acre lease on the coast and I’m not scouting anything. I have blinds on the marsh, I’m showing up, dropping decoys, driving away, paddling the piroque back and hunting. I’m grassing a couple blinds this Tuesday, shooting a couple redfish to smoke and that is the extent of me being on the lease until hunting time.

I dress my blinds weeks before the season and then don’t touch it until opening day

Yeah that is true. I wish it was like it was when I was a little kid, because the numbers were so much better back then

Re: Louisiana Duck Season
That last storm pushed wayyyy too much water in. Hopefully it drops quickly, because as it is now, the ducks are displaced all over the marsh where we hunt at

Re: Louisiana Duck Season
We shoot a ton of ringers in Florida. Little fighter jets. Some people don't care to eat em, but I think they are great table fare.

Re: Louisiana Duck Season
I'd put ringers right below woodies and teal. We call them butterballs.
In bayou black, we kill mostly ringers and teal nowadays.
