How many rpms should a gator tail 35 be turning in the water?

Depends on the boat size and load in the boat. Anywhere between 3700-4200.

Boat is a 18x54 gator trax and had about a 500 lb load. Was only getting about 3250 rpms and that seemed a little low to me. Is that low?

I was just test driving the boat today so nothing i can really do with it yet. I just wanted to make sure I could get a little more out of that engine if I buy it.

That should be turning in the high 3000's low 4000s if it will not get there, I would personally leave it alone- you don't want to buy a problem.

how much of the propr should be in the water when running? I may have had it trimmed wrong (this is only my second time driving one). Think I will go back and check the out of water rpm's these should be around 4200? Is that right? If the out of water is ok then it is probably operator error on the in the water rpm's.

Neutral RPMs should be 4250 RPMS when the governere will start bouncing.

I have a 1754 gtr extreme and out of water rpms r 4200, in perfect conditions in water itturns up 3600-3660 max. Does this seem low? I would like it to turn 3800-3900. With men and a friend I run bout 25, what can I do?

In your case I dont think turning the governer up will free up much more rpms. Might seem dumb, but are you trimming the motor up enough to let the engine spin faster? My stocker would get 3800-3850 stock in deep and ran about 27-28ish.

mr draggin,my rpms were close to the same as yers.one thing you can do is stage 1.mine turns 4050 in the water with a new prop and i only run the tips out da water.my boat is not a mm hull,so it prob.wont ever perform like one but to me,the stage 1 made a big diff.,my boats always loaded.to me it dont seem to push more with the prop half way out the water,it just makes a prettier rooster tail, more rpms, noise and harder to hold on to.jmo.

Got the motor up to 3850 running with just me which got me going 28 mph. The boat wont go over 4000 out of the water so i guess i need to adjust the governor up to 4200. Should the idle be 1100 out of water?

idle in neutral usually should be 1150-1250 depending how you want it. When the prop is submerged in gear idle will be about 950-ish
