Anyone know if it would run on a final atack layout. Got a 40 lb. trolling motor on it now and it moves pretty good. The boat is rated for 5 hp. and weight should not be a problem.

Post Re: Copperhead Questions
Just got back from running in MS and TN with Cutt Down last week. We ran our 14 and 16 Prowlers with 12hp Copperheads in Cypress groves and in fresh, hard ice, about 1-1.25 thick. I was impressed. We did not need to run fast in the timber, just moving along with 2-3 man loads, would run up on a stump, just gas the motor and we would slide right over them. In the open areas we could step the boat with three men and gear. We also broke thought over 1" of hard ice running the lake over and back on Friday, it was 6 degrees Friday morning when I launched, motor ran great and held up in some cold rough conditions. I don't know if I would have wanted to break the ice and rebreak our way out with a lighter jon boat, but with our boats it did great. We have some video we will be posting up later in the week.

Anyone know how they get that kind of speed? I run a 15hp outboard on my 1436 and i get 12 mph max with just me, battery, and fuel tank and i keep hearing about 18-20 mph out of these things. I though MMs were supposed to be slower than outboards.

I am not sure what the secret is to these little motors, but they continue to impress the hell out of me. We did build the boats to match the motors and that is part of the equation, but we are seeing and hearing about similar speeds on all kinds of little boats. These Copperheads produce a ton of low end torque, you really feel it with the 12hp models, so they get the boats up and moving quickly.

I know alot of guys are calling bs, but anyone who knows me knows I don't post bs numbers. We are running the speeds we posted consistantly. Anyone who wants to dispute it, just get ahold of me or Cutt Down and let us take you for a ride, the proof is in the performance.

I'm seriously considering one, but I just can't see them taking 3000 dollars worth of abuse year after year

sd vs outboard,
ive never gps either but from the feel of the boats ide say my 14x48 with 23 sd will run with a 25 hp out board on the same boat. i have always said that hp to hp you are not giving up any speed when running a sd over an outboard.
